“Lovely location but seems to be #going to the dogs".u”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2014

We had reason to stay over in Roanoke again recently and decided on the Hyatt. The room was lovely, extremely clean, comfy bedding and friendly room service. The hallway was very noisy and there seemed to be barking dogs all over the place. I called the front desk and was told th ey were a dog friendly hotel but they made no effort to change my room to a quieter area. This is a pricier hotel for the area and I was not pleased with the way this was handled. Had I not been so tired I would have found another location. If you aren't traveling with a pet and are going to be located on a pet floor you should at the least be advised. I mentioned that to the front desk upon checking out and didn't get as much as an I'm sorry, just a blank stare. I love my dog but I rarely travel with him. I'm not upset with the pet friendly part, I am upset with the " person unfriendly" part..all that is needed is a buffer zone. I don't like paying well over $100 and being awake to a chorus of doggy medley.

After booking a confirmed room (and prepaid $197 for one night) two months in advance, when I checked in, they told me the room was no longer available due to a "maintenance issue". That was it, I was on my own at 930pm when every hotel was already booked because of college graduations in the area. Absolutely disgraceful, and the manager could care less. I travel over 100 days a year and WILL NEVER stay at a Hyatt property again.

Good place. We had nice big rooms. They had a cook with an omelet station in the morning which was really appreciated after weeks of standard breakfast stations at other hotels. One negative was that it was really very hard to find. We made the mistake of putting the address in the gps rather than hotel name. Maybe that would have been better. The hotel sits in the back of a giant mall and it took us forever to find it because our gps kept saying "you have arrived."

Ask for better pillows. They were way too fluffy.

Air condition was very noisy waking us up when it clicked on.

This is a more dated Hyatt Place, typical redone Summerfield Suites (not a newer HP). Check-in cleark was not as polished as most HP clerks, but when we got to talking, he wound up being OK. There was a piece of contruction equipment in front of the hotel, with a dug-up plumbing pipe, so some work was being done... The bathroom typical HP bathroom had not been renovated, so it was still a tub-with-shower as opposed to the newer HP baths that have glass doors, which make them seem more roomy.

Stain on corner sofa. Two condoms (unused, just to be clear) in the bottom of the tissue box holder - nice touch, but might have preferred anti-bac wipes instead...

Typical airport location in generic commerical area. Could've been anywhere in the U.S. Need a car to get anywhere, except the China Buffet in the parking lot (we did not try, we drove less than a mile to Shakers, which was just OK. The new Hampton Inn across the parking lot is going to be some stiff competition to this HP if they don't get their act together.

Indoor pool was nice-sized.

If you want to experience downtown, this is not for you. Seems like they have a few festivals/markets downtown (first and third Fridays for example), so if you really want to experience Roanoke, this is not your location - the Doubletree downtown seemed like the signature hotel, but we haven't stayed there.

Had a two day break with a family group in two rooms. Great facilities in the huge rooms. Really more like a suite. Everything possible provided in the room including coffee machine, fridge, ironing board hairdryer etc. air conditioning was easy to control and the whole room was very comfortable with a nice seating area. Great quality huge bed. Plenty of fluffy towels in the room.
Hotel staff pleasant and helpful but they were often busy multitasking running between the reception desk and the small bar and eating area.
My only slight negative comment was the very small and obviously inadequate breakfast area. Both mornings we had breakfast we had to wait for a seat and plates ran out, food was not replenished very quickly in the self service area. The coffee ran out the second morning we were there. Tables weren't cleaned and there were very few staff dealing with the huge numbers of folk trying to get breakfast. Found this very strange in such a large and busy hotel!
Plenty of restaurants in the surrounding shopping malls .
Some of our party used the indoor pool which was a great facility well heated and with nice seating around the pool.
Would recommend this hotel for a short stay, just wish they would sort out the breakfast system!

We were left without a flight or a car at the Roanoke airport on March 6, 2014. I picked up the reservations phone and talked to a couple of hotels where the customer service wasn't so good. Then I got Ken at Hyatt Place and our lousy day was turned around. He was so nice and so caring and it just so happened that the Hyatt van was outside the airport already. We hopped on and were greeted by someone so friendly and nice. We checked into a very nice and very clean room. The van took us to the mall so we could get pjs and necessities, as we were traveling with minimum luggage. One call after dinner and they picked us up within minutes. Breakfast the next morning was great. The sandwiches and truly fresh fruit were a welcome sight. We were taken to the airport and thankful for a good experience under bad circumstances. The staff was truly outstanding.
The only negative was TV reception. We didn't complain and don't know if it was just our room or a bigger problem.

I was completely impressed with the friendliness of the staff (very inviting), condition of the hotel and value. The rooms are very spacious with lots of room to stretch out. Also, a very nice T.V. entertainment area. Thanks for a terrific stay and a nice surprise! We chose this hotel for the location/convenience to the airport...much nicer than I would expect near the airport. This Hyatt Place over-delivered on convenience and especially on kindness.

Room Tip: Very large rooms with plenty of area to stretch out.
