“Good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012 via mobile

I booked this hotel for a va tech football weekend ( couldn't get any closer to Blacksburg) and I stayed one time prior. We had two rooms, unfortunately the hotel was so booked one of our rooms was a king handicapped room but rooms were across the hall, so very convenient. Rooms are large and comfortable with a sectional seating area, desk, refrigerator, bed area and then bathroom. The sectional folds out to a bed so very comfortable for a bigger group. The only complaint for the rooms were the very small bathroom, you almost have to do a back bend over the toilet to shut the door and the disrepair of the door (pulling apart) , ceiling ( molding and peeling) and shower head (bad spray) and the air conditioner unit was loud and did not cool very well. Room smelled a bit musty.

The breakfast area (free) was nice with lots of selection for food and drink and very helpful staff. The breakfast sandwiches were not very hot so the staff offered to heat them in their convection oven. The last day we stayed the breakfast area was overwhelmed with softball players ( tournament time) and it was difficult for staff to keep up, but they did a good job even though they ran out of their cinnamon rolls:(....due to the busy time rates were about $149 per nite.

Please excuse me for being so tardy in responding to your review. You were here on a busy weekend with a VA Tech home football game & one of the many sports tournaments that the Roanoke Valley plays host to yearly.

Here is the scoop on the bathrooms; they are ALL being redone in 2013! This should correct the challenges you encountered.

Thanks for your feedback; keep us in mind for VA Tech Home Football 2013!

We stayed here in mid June. We arrived at the hotel on the morning of our check-in date to see if an early check in was possible. The GM was working the desk and happily accommodated our request even though the hotel was fairly full. At midnight a large party of sport tournament parents started a beer cooler party at the main entrance. We were on the 6th floor, but we were able to hear everything loud and clear even over the a/c. I made several calls to the front desk, but nothing was done until they finally dispersed around 3am. Definitely not the typical Hyatt family of property. We checked out and moved to the Courtyard. Huge improvement!

We stayed one night at the Hyatt Place in Roanoke, VA. We chose the location because we had stayed at Hyatt Place before and one room can sleep two adults and four children. This Hyatt Place was the more expensive of 3 we have stayed in and the least nice. We arrived late and the room was fine, but it was about 40% more expensive than Memphis, TN. The breakfast had very little variety. For one night on a road trip I would recommend it.

Please excuse my delay in responding; we apprecite you being a loyal Hyatt supporter.

Hotel rates are based on location & demand; I am not sure what our occupancy was during your stay but this could be the reason for the higher rate.

Hyatt Place has been around for almost 6 years & they continue to add hotels on a regular basis. It is a great product to have for family travel.

We appreciate your business!

Only one working elevator the entire 3 days we were there which meant long waits and crowded conditions. Breakfast was mediocre and I'm not a fan of Starbuck's coffee so that was a drawback for me. We ended up going to the Panera down the street every morning for better coffee and much better breakfast choices.

The room was a mini-suite and was well appointed and clean. One drawback was the lack of a dresser so we could unpack our clothes. The internet service was very fast. TV reception was okay. Appreciated the free HBO. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were nice. Overall - I'd rate our experience as just okay, not great. I'll probably stay somewhere else the next time I'm in Roanoke.

Having 1 working elevator was a nightmare for everyone! The elevator company had a challenge figuring what exactly was not working & finally had to call in an expert before it was fixed. We are sorry you had to experience this inconvenience during your stay.

We appreciate all reviews even if there is a delay in our response :)

My family (2 adults, 2 kids) stayed here while in Roanoke visiting family. It was our first stay at a Hyatt Place and we were pleased with the hotel. The room had a modern 42" flat screen tv and a suite layout with mini fridge and coffee maker. The hotel has a convenient location near Valley View Mall and the airport. The free breakfast buffet was nice. There was a good variety, although it wasn't exactly gourmet. It was nice that we were able to avoid going out to a restaurant and it had everything we really needed. Our kids really enjoyed the indoor pool. We will probably stay here on our next visit.

Hyatt Place Roanoke is a perfect for families; room to spread out in the large guestrooms, heated indoor pool for the kids to play & adults to relax & food & beverages available 24/7. What more could you ask for?

Thanks for the great review even though I am a little behind in responding. Come back to see us on your next trip to the Roanoke Valley!
