The Town Center is a mixed use development (residential/retail/commercial) located in Reston, VA. The location is about all it shares with the town. The complex draws workers from a considerable distance. Since it is fully self-contained in terms of dining and other services, there really is little or no interaction with the surrounding community.
As an "outdoor mall", the dining and retail options are spectacular. My favorite restaurants are Mon Ami Gabi and McCormick & Schmick's, but I have not tried all of them as yet. The retail stores include all of those you would expect to find in an upscale mall, except the major destination stores like Bloomingdales or Macy's.
Parking is plentiful and free. The complex is easily walkable, and there is a small ice skating rink in front of Panera Bread in season, with its own miniature zamboni. (I've walked by it and watched the skaters, but not used it myself.)
The Center is largely business-oriented during daytime, although you will see residents walking dogs and that sort of thing. Evenings, it turns into a trendy hot spot. You actually can see the transition in the parking garages, as one set goes home and the other set arrives.
