My husband and I stopped at Green Bean Cafe on our way to Virginia Beach. It's a little hard to find—look for Bowman's Nursery. The cafe is actually inside the gift shop! And I don't mean that it's next to the gift shop, either. A few small tables are interspersed throughout the shop, which makes for an intimate and unusual setting. Our visit was for a late lunch, so there was only one other couple there and it was very quiet. The staff was very friendly. The menu was surprisingly big for such a small place. My husband had a delicious tuna melt and I had a lobster roll, which was served with fruit and potato salad with the lobster shell as a garnish! Beautiful presentation. It's a tad pricey, but on par with what you'd expect for higher quality, fresh food. There are also tables outside amongst the quaint garden nursery. If you love gardening and fresh food, this place is for you. It's locally owned and very eclectic. Given that it's a few blocks off High Street and it doesn't have great signage, it probably doesn't get the typical tourist traffic. The only reason why I'm not giving it five stars is that I'm being picky. It's just a little bit messy inside. The only bathroom has a string to flush the toilet; the ceiling tiles are broken/cracked; our table was wobbly and the displays were a little messy. The owner explained that the shop gets completely rearranged every season, so there is always something new. Definitely worth a visit!
