The revamped "Bank Food and Drink" opened under new ownership a few weeks ago. The restaurant features fresh italian dishes, and emphasizes local, organic ingredients. To the extent possible, everything is made "in house", including the desserts, pasta and bread. I went to the Bank anticipating gnocchi, which was listed in the online menu a few days before my trip to the restaurant. When I arrived, the gnocchi was unavailable because they had been unable to find satisfactory potatoes. Personally, I like the idea of only offering a dish if the ingredients are satisfactory. Since the gnocchi was unavailable, I had the evening special, which was tagliatelle with shrimp and mushrooms. The pasta, which was of course made in the restaurant, was perfectly al dente, and the sauce was delicious but neither heavy or overpowering, and the shrimp and mushrooms were fresh and not overcooked. My wife had papardelle with broccoli florets over a cannellini bean cream sauce. The sauce was a new experience for her but she loved it. We paired these dishes with a local (Villa Appallaccia pinot grigio. We enjoyed the wine and the price per bottle was pretty reasonable and apparently priced below the standard restaurant markup. It really is a pretty good pinot grigio and I thought it paired really well with the shrimp and pasta dish I ordered.
I'm jumping ahead a bit, as we began our meals with salads - I had the carrot salad with lovage and a slightly sweet balsamic vinegar dressing. It was different and much heartier than I expected. The portion was large but I ate every bit. My wife had an apple and fruit salad which she found refreshing.
We finished the meal with dessert - tiramisu made in house - very good, not overpoweringly sweet or rich. We ordered coffee of course, and were pleased to find that our coffee was brewed in a french press that they brought to the table.
The price was extremely reasonable for a meal of this quality - the pasta entrees are very attractively priced.
All in all, we were extremely happy with our experience and urge you to support this local restaurant - it is an upward departure from the norm in terms of the quality of the food and their general attitude toward dining. You will not be disappointed.
