We were very fortunate to be able to get a reservation for dinner at the Bank during the very busy VT graduation weekend. This restaurant is truly a hidden gem tucked away in a small town in the middle of Appalachian country (about 30 minutes west of Blacksburg). Even though the restaurant was at capacity, they never missed a beat. We were seated promptly upstairs. The rooms upstairs are mostly one table private dining rooms and are beautifully decorated with works done by local artists. Our wait person, Kelly, was beyond delightful and was able to thoroughly explain everything on both the drink and food menu. Her recommendations were excellent, including her recommendation of a new wine that they had just gotten in that had not yet been added to the menu. There were 5 of us and because everything sounded so wonderful, we ordered one each of all of the appetizers. Because of the privacy, we felt comfortable passing them around and trying everything, including the mushroom soup that was one of the specials that evening and hit the spot on a chilly rainy evening. Everything was exceptional, especially the pork belly, which was served with a mango sauce and root beer jelly on the side. The combination of flavors and texture just popped. For our entrees, I had the crispy duck and the others had the fillet. The steaks were tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection and served with blue cheese mashed potatoes and asparagus. The duck, with the chipotle grits and broccolini, was out of this world and I can't wait to have it again. The creative side dishes that came with the entrees were wonderful and complemented the entrees perfectly. We passed on dessert, but could not have been more satisfied with our meal. The atmosphere, food and service were exemplary. I would give this restaurant 10 stars if I could. Everyone agreed it was right up there with one of the best dining experiences we have ever enjoyed. Also, did I mention that both the food and drink prices were very reasonable. The highest priced entree was $28. I am glad that my daughter will be staying in Blacksburg so we will be able to visit the Bank again and again. What a find!
