“A bit out of the way, but worth the journey.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

I've stayed overnight at the Ashby Inn, had lunch there twice, and delighted in their world class Sunday brunch. Besides, you'd pass some very good wineries along the way which are well worth exploring. The lunch prices are most affordable, and the menu selection never has failed to impress me with the offerings from local farms. The view from the patio is worth the trip just by itself. Just down the road from Sky Meadows State Park.

“Great Place, food, service and view!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

This is a wonderful restaurant to go to for a special occasion. I took my girlfriend here for her birthday. We went for the Chefs menu with wine pairing. Every dish was fantastic as well as the wine. The wine and how it was paired with the food was explained to us as it was served. We sat outside and it was beautiful. We both highly recommend it and will be going back again. Maybe in the Fall to see a different menu.

“Excellent! And responsive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013 via mobile

Spectacular food and setting on a summer's evening. We asked for a shellfish-free option and a special menu was printed to meet the need! Then we ordered the tasting menu to get the best of what was offered -- magnificent! First, the simple tomatoes w sea salt and the filled pretzel were wonderful. The chilled cantaloupe soup: killer! The tilefish is a spectacularly great dish -- best of the night! Then the searing rock -- ribeye or sashimi depending on your dietetic request -- with Japanese mushrooms was knee-buckling. You can skip the bubble tea intermezzo and go straight to the butter cake. I would have been glad to stop there and avoid the little tea cakes. But the meal and service were among the best I've ever had, in a charming setting!

“Sounds intriguing, but rather disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2013

I want to love the Ashby Inn, but I can't. It's an attractive space, beautiful country setting, nice staff, good wine list..... But the food is not very good. Not as fresh or seasonal as one would expect. The menu offers some intriguing, creative, combinations, but in the end, the chef simply so the menu now seems silly and pretentious.

Went there about a year ago, gave it another try recently. Delicate, cantaloupe buttermilk soup appetizer spoiled by savory garnish that tastes like stale '70's-style fake bacon bits. Scrapple appetizer had texture of soft bread pudding. Main course options dominated by heavy meats that aren't right for midsummer. Even the desserts were unappealing. The chef is trying too hard. The place was virtually empty, and few locals there, how does it stay open?

“Surprising meal at Ashby Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

Although we needed help with the menu (we had never heard of some of the terms) the meal was outstanding. The portions seem small but they were actually perfectly sized so one leaves satisfied but not overstuffed. The real story though was the taste and consistency of each menu item. It was a unique dining experience, probably the best I've had in years. Truly delightful all around.
