“Wonderful place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

We have stayed here several times. Paris, Virginia is a bit away from everything, but that is a plus. We always have a wonderful time. Superb and interesting dinner. They are extremely accomodating to our dietary restrictions. We have no restrictions on wine, and we have never been disappointed. We have stayed in several different rooms in the main house, it is old, but, so much more interesting. Breakfast has always been better than expected. Service is the best. We will be back as often as we can.

Large, well decorated room and very large bath. A bit out of the way but well worth the time. A gem in the outback of DC. Both quiet and located with beautiful views. The main house and restaurant were restored in excellent fashion in congruence with the style of the original home

Room Tip: There are rooms in the main house and an adjacent converted school house. I stayed in the school ho...

Had a wonderful spontaneous stay for our anniversary. We chose the Ashby Inn after the WashingtonPost ran an article on the inn. The stay was very comfortable even thru the wind storm the night we stayed. The food was definitely upscaled but my husband tasted pork grease in each of the dishes served, including breakfast. I loved it, such decadence. I would definitely return another time!

We spent a lovely evening at The Ashby for a friend's birthday dinner. We were greeted warmly, had a lovely room in the old Schoolhouse (large, with a beautiful view and a nice fireplace) and, when there was a problem with the ceiling fan, it was promptly, cheerfully and fully solved. Dinner was really outstanding, with good service and unique, enjoyable dishes, and the special food needs of one of our party were readily accommodated. Breakfast was delicious.

Room Tip: The Schoolhouse rooms, two doors up from the Inn itself, are quite large.

The food was amazing. The service was too.

I had heard about the Ashby Inn and had been wanting to go for a long time. The chef combines interesting ingredients and prepares them in unusual ways, with amazing results. In fact, everything I tasted, and that includes almost everything on the menu, as we were a party of six and shared dishes, was divine. Like many newer restaurants, the Ashby Inn is focused on local ingredients. Sometimes this results in less than stellar food, but not here. The goat liver parfait was amazing, the braised pork shoulder had more flavor than anything I've ever tasted, and the skate was perfect, if slightly less local. The wine list is extensive but not overpriced, and the waitstaff really know their wines. The recommendations we received were perfect companions to the intense flavors of the food. I will definitely be back.

Both my fiance and I were on a return trip from a day in the countryside. We have used Yelp numerous time to find many charming and irresistible places to dine, most of which have been spot on. This was not the case however with the Ashby Inn. I enjoyed the Hazelnut soup but that is where it ended. The wine the waiter suggested was terribly dry, I didn't end up drinking it. My husband and I ordered the Pork and Flounder both of which were terrible! The pork was cold at best and thought my fish dish would hold a fusion of flavors, but I received only one...salt and way too much of it! Overall I spent $115 for a meal that was very disappointing. The Inn itself is very charming, however I would not eat there again!

We booked the Ashby Inn as a last minute getaway from the busy DC life. As a frequent business traveler, I am sometimes skeptical to stay at Inn's because they can be a bit older and run down. However, the Ashby Inn was absolutely beautiful! We stayed in the schoolhouse (this is not connected to the main house- definitely recommend this as you get more privacy and I think the rooms are nicer) Gorgeous room with a fireplace, huge bathtub and bathroom, and beautiful deck overlooking the mountains. We had a lower first floor room, but would recommend a 2nd floor room so you don't have to hear the people walking above you. Dinner at the Inn was fantastic!! We especially loved the short ribs. You can BYOB wine for $25 corkage fee, we found this especially useful because they do promote a lot of VA wines and we are not big fans. Thanks Ashby for a wonderful weekend!!

Room Tip: Chose the school house and a room on the second floor. Apparently Layfayette is the best room with t...
