“Puketotara lodge is an amazing place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

I visited the lodge with family and I must admit the entire place was just amazing, the rooms were great, the natural scenery was breath taking, a private golf course and airstrip, and the list just goes on... But most importantly the dinner and service provided by Mutsuo and John were nothing short of excellent. I highly recommend Puketotara lodge!

We've just returned from five days of total relaxation and enjoyment of the beautiful environment that is Kerikeri and especially Puketotara Lodge. Somehow John and Mutsuo combine 5 star standards of food, facilities and ambiance with an easy relaxed 'at home' feel. We've been travelling constantly for work and pleasure over the last 15 years world-wide and have not seen it done this well before. The hardest part is leaving without kidnapping the cutest Labrador, Hanna who is the best Hospitality employee I've ever seen! Could not be more highly recommended.

Room Tip: Any, they all have great views

On my mother's first trip to NZ, I took her to this accommodation.
Despite the rainy weather, we could have wonderful time during the stay!
Thank you Mutsuo-san & John!

We stayed at the cottage, but they invited us to nice dinner at the main accommodation. Home-made pizza, that was very fun!
Also Mutsuo gave us flexible service a lot - We cancelled our swimming-with-dolphins tour (because it was rainy and cold), and then he took us to Kauri Tree tour instead.
We both were very touched with warm service & hospitality at this Lodge.
Animals are lovely too. We highly recommend this place!

Room Tip: There is a spa outside of the cottage. It's nice even if it's rainy.

From the moment we arrived to a welcome glass of wine on the beautiul deck with an amazing outlook, we were hooked! John and Mutsuo have created a relaxing, low key experience whilst maintaining the highest standards of decor, facilities and cooking. Whether walking down by the golf area to the river or sitting in the hot tub watching the stars we were captivated.
The only catch is that the Lodge was so lovely it was difficult to tear ourselves away to go and explore the Bay of Islands etc.
I can honestly say we've never stayed anywhere we've enjoyed more.

We both enjoyed our stay. There is so much to compliment John and Mutsuo on..it would be hard to start. Two standouts were the food, the amazing company on our first night and the company of Hanna wherever we went. She was adorable and would have been sumuggled out in the car, if Paul had his way. Our only concern is, that once everyone finds out about this place we won't be able to get available bookings. Good look John and Mutsuo on your slice of paradise.

My daughter and I stayed at Puketotara Lodge for 5 nights in January and we had a brilliant time! Mutsuo and John made us feel welcome and at home. We stayed in the King Room and we were well looked after. There were so many highlights of our trip from the delicious breakfast served to us by Mutsuo each morning, to the beautiful Hana who accompanied us on our walks around the farm. The views are magnificent and the walks down to the river were relaxing and peaceful. We did a bus trip to Cape Reinga and spent the day in Paihia but it always so nice to get back to our lodge in Kerikeri where we could unwind and relax in our stunning room. Thank you Mutsuo and John for the incredible and warm hospitality, it was greatly appreciated!

Room Tip: If you are staying for a couple of nights then a good option would be to get a King Room

My family and I stayed in their cottage for 3 days just around Christmas. Even though the weather was far than nice we just had one of our best time in New Zealand : it was what we were looking for ! Nice cottage with beautiful space, deco and a lovely spa in the garden. The view was enchanting and the pleasure to be greeted by the horses and alpacas in the morning was the perfect gift for our younger daughter. Hana, the more than lovely, friendly dog was the cherry on the top !
We felt more than welcome by John and Mutsuo and I would like to thanks them for their nice gifts on Christmas day along with the big help when our tyre broke just before leaving their place!
What else to say ? Just go and ENJOY !
