“Glad I didnt pay full price”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2014

My husband and stayed at Turkey Red using a groupon voucher ($94 night and dinner).I was a bit dubious after having read the reviews (should have done that before buying the voucher).

The room was basic, barely big enough for the double bed and looked over the garden bar. I was just thankful it was a wet night as I can image if there are revellers in the downstairs bar/outside it would be quite unpleasantly noisy. The shared bathroom facilities were clean but in desperate need of an update. The service while polite was not very polished and lacked professional standards; no proper greeter for checking in/restaurant also booking was weird. When I rung to check availability I asked if I could get an emailed confirmation. Was told to email her and she would reply, which she did with a very brief email.

The meal was good however and my husband enjoyed his burger and I had the chicken skewers. The salad was fresh and tasty but the chicken a bit dry but I still enjoyed it. The deserts of cream brulee and chocolate brownie were very nice.

All in all if you are after the cheapest possible room in area it is aright, but if you can pay more or find a good deal elsewhere go for something else.

“Turkey Red - Disapointing to say the least!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

We booked several months in advance for a large group booking for weekend accomodation and dinner one night, only to find out when we were there that they had only booked us for one night. No apology from the owner, and she tried to blame us for their tardiness. Although they happily took cash off us as soon as we arrived for the extra person for 2 nights. To say the owner was rude would be an understatement! They did put us up in alternative accomodation for the second night, (begrudingly and after quite some "discussion"), which was to say the least disgusting, an old cottage that came complete with dirty sheets, it had not been aired or cleaned for several months, and even made one of our party quite unwell. We were not shown where to go and she literally barked the address at us as she rushed off to post a letter! The dinner we had was average the only saving grace of the whole place was one of the staff members who worked behind the bar and served food, was quite friendly and helpful. Accomodation was definately "above a pub old school style", shared bathrooms not well kept at all, dirty bits of old soap everywhere very doubtful it was cleaned regularly. Would not recommend this place at all, if the deal seems to good to be true its because it is.

“Absolutely never again!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

We were staying at next door motel and thought this was so handy.Okay we hadn't booked but only 5 of us and it was 6.30pm so thought all ok.We were told there was an 1 1/2 hr wait as they were expecting lots of diners that had booked.Fair enough as we hadn't booked so we ordered easy meals and went through to bar for a drink to wait.Yes our table and food was ready after that time.On going through to dining room we were surprised to see only 3 other tables dining.Busy???Wouldn't knoiw the meaning of the word.Staff seemed reluctant to even be there.Food was average and we only ordered pizzas. How hard is that?Very disappointing.

“Not recommended”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

Stayed overnight on a Saturday and had dinner in the hotel. The accommodation was very shabby with not very clean shared facilities - no ensuite toilet/bathrooms. There was no TV except for Sky Sport in the bar. Our room was tiny - more a single size, despite having a double bed - and the bed was very uncomfortable. Music from the bar below our room was extremely loud, although it thankfully stopped before we went to bed. Dinner was bad. The $28 steak was small and over-cooked, served with fries that tasted like fish and chip shop leftovers re-heated. It was served without salad or vegetables. The fruit crumble was doughy, short on fruit and lacked flavour. We will not be going back!
