“Apartments are an excellent choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2011

We only had one night in the Claremont. And if truth be told that was a large part of why I chose it, because so many Martinborough properties have a two night minimum stay. So they missed out and the Claremont got our business.

As it turned out, it was a great choice. We stayed in one of the two-bedroom apartments, since I was taking my mum on a tiki tour. It was less an apartment and more like a flash bach in Omaha - lovely kitchen/lounge area opening out to the deck via long bi-fold doors; plenty of room and seating outside as well as in. The lady (Tina?) on reception was terrific - very friendly and helpful. Overall the place is great. Can't comment on the accommodation in the other rooms but the apartments, while a bit more expensive, are excellent. There may be some equally good places if you are staying more than one night, but you won't be disappointed and I would definitely stay again.

I gave this motel a five-star review when I spent a night there early in 2010. This year, we stayed for four nights and I am happy to say that nothing had changed - the same great room, the same friendly and helpful owners, the same peace and quiet, the same little bit of heaven.

This is a fairly new complex and the units are well fitted out with quality furnishings.A quiet rural setting we enjoyed our stay and found the owners to be friendly and helpful.
The bed layout wasn`t ideal for a family of four with two queen beds and a trundler but otherwise would totally recommend this as a great place to stay .

we stayed en route from Lake Taupo to Wellington and wish it was longer than one night as the surrounding countryside looked delightful and the town pretty with some interesting shops and good places to eat. The two bedroomed apartment we stayed in was luxuriously appointed and decorated in great modern style. Our hosts were friendly and helpful, recommending and booking us a table at a restaurant in the town. If we ever venture this way again this is a place I would definately return to and probably stay several days using it as a base to explore the surrounding wine country.

The motel itself was fine, with lots of facilities in the apartment. The main problem was two big skylights in the one-bedroom apartments, which meant that we had to wake up with the sun and in January, this is early! For this reason, I don't recommend it. The 'bedroom' is not a room at all, but a mezzanine floor, all open to the rest of the apartment, with two skylights. As it's upstairs, it's pretty hot. They did give us a fan though when we asked. The downstairs bed was also affected by the skylights. No idea what they bothered having blackout curtains?!
It's right on the edge of town, but it's a very small town, so easily walkable if necessary).
Oh and WiFi cost $20 per day! No thanks.
Tip: check out the vineyards for food, better than town. Tirohana (??) seemed pretty good, we had lunch there.

After staying in a dirty bach up country and last minute finding accomodation on my phone internet for one night in martinborough before heading back to work, this was a true treat, clean, quiet, nicely decorated, great friendly services, awesome relaxing spa bath. Everything we needed!

Nice place to stay until 5am in the middle of summer when you realise that the lack of blinds on the skylights is far more annoying than you could have imagined the night before.
Upon enquiring at reception why on earth there are no blinds I was informed "Oh some people just love lying in bed looking at the stars!". Well thats great but some people like sleeping in after driving all day to get to Martinborough.
Obviously the skylights affecting sleep was an afterthought which has not yet been remedied. If you value sleep avoid the 1-2 Bedroom units as they all appear to have skylights. Not sure about the other rooms.
Perhaps the hosts could offer eyemasks as a cheaper alternative to installing blinds.
(Also biggest cockroach I have ever seen in NZ was resident in our bathroom)
