“A good choice in Martinborough”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2011

We stayed for 4 nights and this was a good place to stay in Martinborough at a reasonable price. The aparment was spacious with reasonable cooking facilities. The sink was a bit small and there was no dishwasher but other than that, you could quite happily stay here for a few days. We stayed in one of the Executive Aparments which had an outside seating area. We cooked up some of the local lamb on one of their BBQs which was great. The Claremont was about a 10 minute walk into the village where several excellent restaurants could be found. I was lucky enough to be shown around a two-bedroom apartment for a potential future stay - these were more like home than an apartment! Would definately stay here again as it offered a quiet location, off street parking and good value for money for the area.

The apartments are gorgeous and they rent out bikes so you can cycle round all the vineyards (lots in easy distance) and do tastings. We had an amazing day in Martinborough and this was a fabulous place to stay

This was my favourite hotel during our little tour of NZ's N island. We arrived at The Claremont after 27 hours of travelling & were greeted in the reception by a lovely lady who gave us some milk & a map of the "town". She marked the map with local places to eat & was happy to guide us to whatever we needed. Sge then showed us to our room which was clean, comfortable & well-equipped.

There was a heated towel rail & under-floor heating in the bathroom. The shower was powerful & hot with lovely toiletries to accompany it- perfect after such long journey from the UK.

The kitchen had a two ring, halogen hob; microwave; kettle; fridge and all the cutlery/crockery & utensils you could need - incl bottle opener, tin opener, teapot and washing up equipment.

The room was spacious & led to a little patio, complete with two deck chairs. The bed was comfy & the flat screen TV was a welcome addition. There was adequate space to store our belongings. The wardrobe contained coathangers & an iron/ironing board.

Martinborough itself is a small, sleepy town - more of a village. Picturesque, close enough to a number of vineyards and pleasant to visit. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the town centre.

We would have preferred to have had a safe in the room but that is possibly the only criticism. A safe is available for use at reception though.

Overall, the staff are friendly/helpful and the facilities are fresh/clean .I would recommend this hotel (more of a motel) for anyone staying in the area. It is definitely value for money.

We only had one night in the Claremont. And if truth be told that was a large part of why I chose it, because so many Martinborough properties have a two night minimum stay. So they missed out and the Claremont got our business.

As it turned out, it was a great choice. We stayed in one of the two-bedroom apartments, since I was taking my mum on a tiki tour. It was less an apartment and more like a flash bach in Omaha - lovely kitchen/lounge area opening out to the deck via long bi-fold doors; plenty of room and seating outside as well as in. The lady (Tina?) on reception was terrific - very friendly and helpful. Overall the place is great. Can't comment on the accommodation in the other rooms but the apartments, while a bit more expensive, are excellent. There may be some equally good places if you are staying more than one night, but you won't be disappointed and I would definitely stay again.

I gave this motel a five-star review when I spent a night there early in 2010. This year, we stayed for four nights and I am happy to say that nothing had changed - the same great room, the same friendly and helpful owners, the same peace and quiet, the same little bit of heaven.

This is a fairly new complex and the units are well fitted out with quality furnishings.A quiet rural setting we enjoyed our stay and found the owners to be friendly and helpful.
The bed layout wasn`t ideal for a family of four with two queen beds and a trundler but otherwise would totally recommend this as a great place to stay .

we stayed en route from Lake Taupo to Wellington and wish it was longer than one night as the surrounding countryside looked delightful and the town pretty with some interesting shops and good places to eat. The two bedroomed apartment we stayed in was luxuriously appointed and decorated in great modern style. Our hosts were friendly and helpful, recommending and booking us a table at a restaurant in the town. If we ever venture this way again this is a place I would definately return to and probably stay several days using it as a base to explore the surrounding wine country.
