“Warm friendly value for money.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013 via mobile

Lovely and warm with genuine friendly staff. Came for lunch with two young kids and had warm welcome and they brought over the highchair. Service was fast and kids platters were great. Soup of the day was scrumptious and great value. Would highly recommend this cafe for its warm welcoming staff and great value.

“Lovely food and excellent value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

The ambience was great - we were down in the cellar area. The service was friendly and prompt. The food was delicious and the prices amazing. We had a main meal each and shared two bottles of wine - total price was $28 each!!

We were so lucky to have stumbled across Margrain - a perfect start to a girlie weekend away. We will be back!

“Mixed bag”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

An interesting experience was had when taking advantage of the 21st Birthday, $21 special set lunch offer. Cannot complain about the price which was good value for 2 courses and a glass of wine.

It took 15 minutes to get a drink and 45 minutes to get our mains; which given that they had had a whole month to predict volumes for this set menu meal offer, they should now have had this sorted.

They had 4 waitresses waiting on and a reasonably amount of guests, so all I can think is that the service from the kitchen was very slow; or they were short-staffed in there.

We enjoyed the views and just chilled out and tried to ignore the fact that we did not have drinks or food or this would have been a lower rating.

The food itself was pretty good (lasagna and fishcakes, for our mains). The dessert was excellent - Chocolate Brownie - we felt the serving portion was quite light, but again we were not paying full price...

Service was perfunctory.Hence the average score - could be so much better as they have a beautiful outlook.

“clouds did not spoil the place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

we visited martinborough for no reason but curiousity and we ended up at margrain vineyard. the place had internet which made it easy for us to check the weather and plan the trip for the day. the low dark clouds added drama to the streaks of sunlight at sun rise. it was dramatic view over the sea of grapes. we had eggs benedict for breakfast. we were greeted by a happy lady wait staff/receptionist. she was chatty and cheerful. we felt welcome. she probably doesn't know how to make the egg's sauce but it's ok. i thought she did a great job making us feel happy in the morning. we ate near the vines and it was too early for wine but we had a wonderful time. this place has reasonable meals. it's a great place to visit especially for families with kids. there's a huge back area where kids can play. we'll be back here for a family reunion. highly recommended.
