After frequenting the Wild fig in Watermans for many years, we finally went to the new one in Scarborough with big expectations. Sadly we were disappointed. After doing the online booking the day before the girl couldnt find it on the list and the "reason" was that they hadn't updated the list hourly, I mentioned that we booked the day before and she said thats ok....... We were shown to a table that was nice and spacious.
The place is very decorated with lots of funky and quirky items including a room with artificial grass as the floor covering, the light fittings include a collection of teacups made into lights and kitchen utensils etc etc but as we looked up to see the one above our table we realised that it was filthy and there was even a dead bee stuck to it. We placed our order for drinks and food. My husband ordered a 1/2 pint of Little Creatures Pale Ale and when the waitress repeated our order she just said Little Creatures, which my husband queried that she ment the Pale Ale and not the Rodgers seeing as there was 2 different ones on the menu and she just said yes the Little Creatures, we hoped she got it right. Luckily she did. The food was average compared to when we used to go to the Watermans Fig, my daughter ordered the kids Pizza which used to be Fresh pineapple, ham, tomato and cheese, but now its just cheese and tomato. I did ask if they could add some pineapple and ham on but the waitress let me know they do not have any pineapple now. My meal was ok but not fab.
One thing I always check is the toilets, you can tell a lot about a cafe/restaurants hygiene from how clean they are. I have to say I was appalled. Considering the amount of staff working (we counted around 12 people), the ladies toilet was terrible. Empty toilet rolls on the floor of every cubicle, empty holders in a couple and the bin was overflowing with used paper towel. My 6yr old even mentioned how the bin was "so full"
Overall I dont think I will go back in a hurry, such a shame as the other Figs have always been a pleasure to go to. Hopefully the owners will train their employee's to take pride more, its great to have funky place but when its not clean its not a pleasant place to be.
