“Great night.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

My wife had a fantastic 40th birthday dinner at the Blue Duck, I went in the restaurant earlier in the week to organize a birthday cake for her, and they made her one to my specification (lemon drizzle), it was delicious and very moist . They put the balloons on the table and put the birthday sparklers on the cake as well.
The food was excellent and everyone got served at the same time or near enough, there was 14 of us all hungry and drinking lots of wine too.
The starters were huge and absolutely wonderful. I had the pork belly and it could have been my main it was that big, really tasty too. Everyone's starter was a huge hit.
The main's were served at a reasonable time after our starters , and they were also fantastic.
I had the beef fillet and the wife had the salmon. Both were well presented and extremely tasty.
The waitress was attentive and discreet, every time my glass was low it would be filled back up again.
Everyone said how wonderful the restaurant was and most of all my wife had a memorable birthday .
In all I was extremely happy with everything the Blue Duck had done for us.
I would highly recommend this restaurant.

“Late light lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

Overlooking Cottesloe Beach, no better vista for a fine afternoon lunch. A range of tables both inside and on the balcony - pick outside if it's a fine day and not too breezy (otherwise bring a jacket).

Wi-fi available - code from staff. Service was attentive and quick (2pm, so less than half full).

The menu has two of my all time favourites as Entrees - Octopus and Salt & Pepper Squid. The former was the standout dish, both taste and visually.

“Terrible - no service!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

4.30 pm on the 16th of july 2013 we just went in for a coffee and lite bite. We were shown to a table, we asked the waitress three times if we could order some drinks, however we ended up walking out after being ignored for approx 15 minutes. If the restaurant was packed then this is understandable, however it was very quiet there were only 4 other tables in total!! Will not be going back!!!

“Oceanside treat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

We go to the Blue Duck a LOT and with good reason. Perth, for all its many miles of fabulous sun kissed beaches lacks good venues that are truly beachside. Not those 'on the beach' but are actually with a busy road in between - these are plentiful enough..but restaurants / cafes that offer an uninterrupted view - without the traffic - of the Indian Ocean. I want to hear the waves crashing on the shore not the utes with exhaust issues.

The Blue Duck offers good food at prices consistent with the nicer restaurants in Perth - which sadly due to the mining boom are all greedily expensive. It is however no more expensive than these and with a million dollar view (and if you sit outside, sound) that the majority lack. Many a time we have enjoyed breakfast here or lunch on a well earned day off from work, posting token pictures via social media for the 'enjoyment' of our envious colleagues. The Blue Duck is a treat for us - a little bit of luxury now and then that reminds us of just how lucky we are to live in Perth - despite the expense!

Food is of good quality and the service generally prompt although there have been a number of times when we have had to wait to be served. Depending on when you dine, it's possibly not the place for a 'quick' visit but with that view, if you have to sit half an hour longer, does it really matter?!

In Winter, we'll often still sit outside on the balcony to eat - sometimes, usually if I'm honest, on our own bracing the wind and cold while enjoying the warmth from the outside heaters that take the edge off the elements. The sound of the ocean is fantastic and being alone there, that's really all we hear. Staff here are accommodating and despite any inconvenience of serving crazy patrons outside at such times, do everything they can do make us comfortable outside eg. lighting extra heaters.

If with a family, the restaurant provides coloured pencils and colouring sheets and staff are very accommodating to children. There is a menu for kids offering simpler options although again the prices are up there albeit reduced to reflect the smaller portion size. We take our children as a very very special treat to enjoy the sunset and they love it - the last time was a year ago and they're still talking about it!

I will say that we have found the menu more limited than the very good Barchetta next door, which we also love and for outside dining also on the beach, Barchetta is without question a worthy rival - but only when eating outside as the acoustics due to their concrete floor wreck the dining experience - in our opinion. All in all this is well worth the visit (and at least half hour drive across town in our case) and we expect to be back many times over the coming years.

“Great position, but pity the breakfast”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2013

The venue is beautiful, right on Cottesloe Beach. The atmosphere was great. There was a jazz bank playing music at one end of the restaurant. The most disappointing part was the food. We were after confi duck and they had run out on a Sunday evening at 7 pm!!!!
The duck spring rolls were nasty and should not be on the menu. My lamb rack was average.
Very pricy for a small beach town.
