“Very ho hum”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2012

We stayed for 2 nights and were really disappointed. We opted for an ensuite double room. It cost as much as an average motel and the facilities were basic to say the least. The room was the size of a shoebox, the bed was in need of replacing, the bathroom was rusty and barely clean, there was only one power point , one bedside table and one very well worn lamp. I realise it is a backpacker hostel but we've stayed in other hostels for less money and at least had the basics such as a kettle, bar fridge, tv, clock radio and possibly a toaster. I've certainly never been handed a plastic basket containing two mugs, two cereal bowls, two plates, two knives, forks and spoons of dubious age. While it didn't spoil our time in Coral Bay, I would certainly not recommend this accommodation. The swimming pool was empty and looked as if it had been for quite a while. Certainly the staff were young and helpful.

I have stayed here about 10 times over the past 10 years and I have enjoyed every stay. It's clean and fuctional.
Most of the bad reviews are actually mostly right, you do get salty showers but have a look around fresh water is not in abundance and yes, the bar is noisy. I prefer it busy and fun at a backpackers than quiet and unsociable. If you like choice don't visit the Ningaloo Coast, accomodation options are kept limited to protect the reef and the backpackers is a lot better than the hotel up the street.
If what you are after is one of the most pristine and accesible coral reefs in the world and a reasonable place to sleep with friendly and knowledgable staff, without having to pay an arm and a leg, then Ningaloo Club will suit you just fine.

Room Tip: Pay the extra and get a double, or ensuite for some privacy.

This is definitly one of the better hostels I've stayed at.
It is the only choice in Coral Bay, but with the variety of accommodation options you could step up a level if required.

I stayed in a 4 bed dorm as I asked if I could go single sex. Although they have no allocated singlesex dorms it wasn't a problem although in peak season there may be some juggling involved, so if this is important to you call and book ahead.

You're given a basket with linen, cutlery and plastic tableware, and each room has a cubby in the kitchen to store items. There is plenty of fridge space and a freezer, perfect for iceblocks in the esky.
The kitchen is small in size but with good facilities, and pots, pans and microwavable bowls are avaialble to borrow from Reception.
Amazingly, in a box on the side are cardboard labels, amd a marker for you to label your belongings with!! Hooray for that forward thinking touch!!

Behind the kitchen area is a laundry room with several machines ($3 a go) and plenty of clothes lines.
Drinking water taps are provided for free use, and the bar commands reasonable takeaway prices- $7 for a can of Bundy.

The room themselves are functional and have good size padlock-able lockers. The bunks are a decent size, although rather tall, and diffcult to hoist yourself onto, although I have found this to be a perennial problem in hostels.
The size is fairly small, so if you have alot of luggage, try to decant the neccessary into smaller bags and leave the rest in the car or the luggage store.

Our aircon worked, although it was rather a mystery how to turn it off, until I actually looked on the back of the remote control.... Still was an odd process.

The bathroom are on both levels and contain 4 each of loos and showers with the showers in the back part. All worked fine, although as others have said are salty bore water. If you have hair problems with saline the hairdressers in the shopping centre does a wash, condition and rinse for $10 in fresh water.
I wasn't completly comfortable with the bathrooms on the balcony part of the walkway, I felt this made you quite vulnerable to others knowing your movements, although I hasten to add at no point have I been even remotely worried about my personal security here.

The small swimming pool to nice, if you like that sort of thing, but with a gorgeous beach 2 mins away I'm not sure many would bother.

Previous comments about the noise form the bar is defintly justified- there is a midnight cut off point- far too late in my opinion. As the bar is in the central courtyard which many rooms overlook, if you have a mega early start or are disturbed particularly easily ask for an outside facing room.

On the point of cleanliness I saw nothing outrageous, but in both female bathrooms the handsoap needed to be refilled for at least 2 days. Small things, but they make a difference.

Take your own teatowels (do this at every hostel) so you can dry your kitchenware properly, and as there is no indoor relax area pack a jumper and trousers as it can get cool at night.

The beach and snorkelling is fantastic here, as are the tours and trips. The hostel does some at a discount so ask at Reception.

Beware the fuel price increases at weekends- $1.71 on wednesday, $1.85 on friday. I don't think that's due to global supply issues.

Overall, well maintained and lively, and as you'll only be here for a few days, what's abit of noise before bedtime?

Room Tip: Ask for an outside facing one for less noise, and for the price of 3 dollars a 4 bed over a ten bed...

Dirty communal bathrooms with only salty water from the taps and showers. Only 1 power point in the room for 6 people to share. Incredibly noisy both nights we stayed until after midnight due to the bar downstairs. Pack your earplugs! No offer to move us to another room or a discount due to faulty airconditioner.

So we've ended up at the hostel on two seperate occassions in a double room.

Room itself, there is nothing wrong with it so deserves a 3 except that its a bit overpriced for a hostel I think so that relegates it to a 2.

As I say, there isn't a lot of choice in Coral Bay so I guess you just have to suck it up,

For the price you pay it is a shock to see the place as it was. We stayed in this accomodation three times between trips to Exmouth and Karijini and on every occasion the room had obviously not been cleaned. The floor had dust, dirt and bugs on it. The biggest problem with this hostel is that all rooms don't escape the loud bar below, which doesn't close until midnight, leaving us with lack of sleep on every night. Would expect this from a $20 a night hostel, not the $100 we paid.

Room Tip: ask for a room towards the front of the building to help take the edge off the loud music and noisy...

I can't think of one good thing to say about this place.

At the risk of sounding old, I think the most important service a hostel should offer is somewhere to sleep. A loud bar next to a pool with most rooms facing inwards towards the noise does not create the ideal conditions for this.

And the room was like a prison cell with harsh strip light and little else. The carpet was filthy and looked like it hadn't been replaced since 1980. The kitchen is also horrible. How can they charge $100 for this??

The reason we stayed there was that there is very little choice in Coral Bay. My advice would be not to bother going to Coral Bay at all. If you have a car, stay in Exmouth (the Golden Chain Sea Breeze is excellent) and drive to Turquoise Bay to do your snorkelling - it's much nicer than the beach at Coral Bay.

Room Tip: If you must stay here, ask for a room that faces outwards away from the pool.
