“Warm, comfortable accommodation and wonderful hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2012

We revisited the Yarra Valley after a 7 year break. The Gatehouse is wonderful place to relax and unwind and is so central to so much that is characteristic of the valley: Ballooning; antique shopping; art and craft; cafes and wineries. The vistas are magnificent. The Gatehouse is well laid out and caters for every need. All on one level the rooms are beautifully furnished and the bathroom is roomy and versatile. We mentioned our Gluten intollerance at the time of booking and John and Sandra made sure we had ample Gluten Free foods at our fingertips. This was most unexpected and much appreciated. There was so much food we had it for breakfast and dinner. Loved our stay.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Melba suite but I believe both accommodations are similar.

Thank you for your kind words. We take great care to ensure that abundant and well-chosen breakfast provisions are one of the distinguishing aspects of any stay at The Gatehouse and endeavour to cater for any guest's dietary requirements to the best of our (and our suppliers') ability.

We don't get many weekends away together where everything went just right, but this was it. From our check in time with John, the 2 night Double Taste package was perfect. The accomodation was well appointed and very comfy and a great base to explore the Yarra Valley. Breakfast food laid on and the ability to easily prepare made the experience a pleasure. We started the first night with dinner at Eleonore’s Restaurant at Chateau Yering where the greeting, service and food was divine. Great night sleep before being picked up by Yvette from Wombat Tours for an all day sourjourn around several of the many great wineries. Lunch on the winery tour was a treat at Immerse arranged by Yvette. This was our first overnight trip to the Yarra Valley and whereas I was thinking it might have just been a one off, now we are planning a return in October and will definitely consider Villa Raeward as our accom.

The accommodation is deservedly 4 star. Top quality design, fixtures and fittings catering for every need plus very generous breakfast provisions. An ideal location from which to explore the Yarra valley. Whilst the units are attached there is adequate privacy if both are occupied. Excellent hosts - there when needed otherwise invisible.
The proximity of the highway does mean background noise when sitting outside but this, to our surprise, did not detract from our enjoying our 5 night stay.

Booking our accomodation at Villa Raedward was made following a visit to the local tourist information on our way into the Yarra Valley. Our instinct told us that Villa Raedward would be a little special. We were completely right starting with John's greating and our introduction to the Melba Suite. John's attention to detail is second to none. From fluffy dressing gowns through to decor and facilities this was one of the best rooms we have ever enjoyed. Waking up to a beautiful country setting was a bonus with breakfast enjoyed at our leisure on the the patio. John's design of Villa Raedward is an expression of Roman architecture with the bulid qulaity reflecting that of the Egyptions. We felt like Ceasar and Cleopatra for our stay. John has promised a grape peeler for our return visit.

Such a beautiful place to stay. A great home for the weekend. Fantastic attention to detail with nothing missed by the hosts. An array of breakfast provisions that we couldn’t possibly finish.
Lots to do around the area with wineries and breweries at your door step.
Would recommend to anyone and will definitely be back.

We loved all the thoughtful touches like the delicious breakfast supplies, the plush bathrobes and the slippers. There was also an extensive DVD library which came in handy when we wanted to hibernate.

The room itself was spacious, stylish and modern.

Thank you for such a lovely weekend away. We would definitely stay here again.
