“peace and quiet and lyrebirds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

Our stop over on the way to Tassie was a very pleasant surprise and our only disappointment was that we didn't book for two nights. The Star Hotel is very comfortable and our evening meal was delicious. The peace and quiet was very restful and to see lyrebirds scratching around at dusk was a delight. There are numerous walks close to the hotel and the train journey is a must.
We hope to return.

Thank you for your review. I'm very pleased you enjoyed your stay at the Star and look forward to welcoming you back. We certainly have plenty of Lyrebirds around at the moment. Everyone thinks we're all being great gardeners mulching our garden but we have a whole flock of Lyrebirds to do the work for us. They are also amazingly tame, we can easily get to within a metre or so of them before they run away.

We stayed at this charming hotel for the night recently. Our welcome was very friendly, the room was beautiful, and the added bonus was no TV or Phone signal. The amenities were excellent. It was like stepping back in time. The Gold Mine trip and the Rail trip were both lovely, and going into the hall in the centre of the town, standing by a real fire having a cup of coffee and chatting to a lady who knew the Moray Firth in Scotland was an added bonus! Us Scots get everywhere ! I would recommend this quaint Hotel and definately stay again.

Stayed for a night on the 150th anniversary of Walhalla. Thought we would be cold as it was a large room, but it was so warm, relaxing as no TV or mobile reception. Wasn't looking forward to the evening meal as set menu and I'm quite fussy, but the lamb pie was lovely, my hubby could've done with more than one potatoe though. Breakfast was adequate but maybe some boiled eggs or cheese as continental breakfast. Overall a very relaxing experience.

Thank you for your review. I'm pleased that you enjoyed your meal with us and that your apprehension was unfounded. Our Winter Warmer package which is just $249 for two people including the meal is proving very popular and the meal is yum! We do have a vegetarian choice too. Please to hear that you were happy with the heating as well. Our rooms are large but are well insulated and many people need to turn down the heating as they end up frying LOL! Look forward to welcoming you back to the Star.

We recently enjoyed a wonderful weekend at the Star Hotel, the hotel is very accommodating and comfortable, and staff were so helpful, friendly and eager to please. We'll definitely be back, the Star Hotel provided a great base to enjoy all the features of Walhalla, as well as lots of insight into the town. Great effort, lads!!

I have travelled to Walhalla regularly since 1973 and until a few years ago tended to make these day trips. Over the last 5 years my wife and I make a regular weekend trip to Walhalla and stay at the Star. We have always enjoyed our stay and have always found the evening meals to be really good. Breakfast, is self serve, with fruit juice, cereal, fruit, toast and tea or coffee. Certainly no fuss, and filling. In recent stays we have been at the Star for the Anzac Day Dawn Service - well worth the moving experience, and two Murder Mystery Nights on the nearby Walhalla Goldfields Railway. We heartily recommend a night at the Star.

Room Tip: The front rooms overlook the Bandstand and give you the opportunity to observe the sunset/sunrise.

I was gratefully put up in this hotel to recover from night shift and it was a lovely quiet place to rest and relax. The room was spacious, comfortable, clean and quiet. The lack of a TV in the room is a great idea to encourage visitors to explore the treasures nestled in Walhalla. The owners were very welcoming. This hotel would be an excellent place if you're looking to get away and smell the roses. I would gladly come back to the hotel and to explore the township.

Room Tip: Wild Cat has a nice little outdoor sitting area.

Very pleased that we were able to provide a restful and relaxing environment for you during what was a rather testing time with bushfires in the area. We hope to welcome you and the rest of your crew back under more normal circumstances when you can enjoy all the experiences that Walhalla has to offer. We were very pleased to be able to accommodate crews of firefighters and ensure they were fully rested during the recent emergency [which is now over BTW].

my wife and i spent a very relaxing night in the Star Inn, the room was great , no Tv, we were able to enjoy the evening sitting on the verada. we stayed on a dinner/continetal breakfast package. The dinner was good but nothing very specail, the breakfast was not the best we had on our trip in AUZ.

we did enjoy it and if in the area would return.
