“a pleasant stay and a great dinner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

Our family (2 + 2) decided to stay at the airport prior to a morning flight. We took advantage of a parking package which worked well. The room was comfortable and spacious eough for the 4 of us, bathroom also good. We could hear airport noise however which woke me up quite early. We caught the hotel shuttle to the airport but I would have to say that walking is much faster due to the dreadful traffic on the airport ramp. The walk would have taken less than 5 minutes. The pleasant surprise at this hotel was the lovely dinner we had in the hotel restaurant with friendly and attentive service, especially for the kids.

I've decided on "Average" with this hotel rather than "Very Good", and this is because of a little bit of service being not quite what I'd expect, but mainly due to the dated decor of the rooms.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by a young asian girl at reception. I couldn't find my booking reference number, and it was all but impossible for her to find me in the system - despite the fact I have one of the most common English surnames around...got there eventually, but a little put out by her demeneor. Rooms had an old faded red carpet, which I thought might have been "groovey" about 30 years ago. Good, clean facilities. Gym was okay, lacking a little in gear, and couln't get the radio or tv to go in there. May have been user issues of course!!

There is a bar and restaurant (Vargas Bar) that I was very impressed with, and will review seperately.

Upon checking out, I was served by a young polynesian girl, who was attentive, friendly, skilled and very good at her job - yop marks to her.

The Holiday Inn is directly at the Melbourne airport. I stayed there several times, especially when I have an early flight. It's in walking distance to the terminals, but they also offer a shuttle service. As a gold gold member you're immediately checked in (thanks to the priority counter). In the reception area they also have a bar where you can have a drink after a long working day or after a long flight. Breakfast is fairly good (cooked breakfast) but you have to pay $ 25.-- per day. The gym is small but offers everything you need for a workout. Rooms are quite even for an airport hotel. Everything is clean and I certainly will stay there again when I'm in Melbourne next.

I use to stay here quite often for work, the rooms are nice and large, very clean too, its a bit of a rabbits warren and would always walk up and down to find the right room but thats not a big deal. the bar downstairs is good and staff always friendly, overpirced but thats what you get at hotel bars. They have a shuttle that pick you up from the airport but I always walked through the carpark instead. Breakfast is good! :) I would reccomend and am staying again soon out of my own pocket not company paying.

My wife and I stayed in a King Bed Superior Room at the Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport for 1 night prior to an early morning flight the next day.

The location of the hotel is a quick 5 minute walk through the car park to the terminal. Although they do run a shuttle bus, it’s just as easy to access on foot.

Booking a room with a king bed proved to be the right decision because the bed was incredibly comfortable and the arrived for a flight very well rested.

The night we stayed, the hotel was fully booked, however it was surprisingly quiet with no noise disruptions filtering through.

The staff were very friendly in every interaction we had.

For the evening meal, we decided to eat at the on-site restaurant and the meal (particularly the pork ribs) was just beautiful and once again the service was impeccable.

Our only gripes with the hotel was that the check out was slow and the was no provision of express facilities in order to make a quick get away. A personal gripe is that the shower is in the bath tub which I feel can be dangerous and difficult for those with limited mobility.

Room Tip: Pay the little extra and get the king room.

We recently stayed here during a one night stopover. While convenient and close to the airport, the hotel shuttle was not available to collect us so we had to walk from the terminal with 80kg of luggage to the hotel as it was too short a distance for a taxi to drive us. This hotel seems to have aged considerably since I last stayed here and the floor we were on and room we stayed in were both in need of a makeover. Service was ok but the breakfast was very ordinary. Stay at the Parkroyal (formerly the Hilton) if you can afford it.

A very pleasant surprise, the staff were friendly and helpfull. Nothing was too much trouble. An unplanned overnighter made bearable by having a good quiet room and excellent service.
I would reccomend the Airport Holiday Inn to anyone needing to get an early flight.
