“Long weekend at Bestbrook”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

We've been visiting at Bestbrook now for about 22 years and love it more each time we go. So lovely and relaxing. We stay in one of the cabins, lately in one of the 3 bedroom ones on the creek which is a lovely spot to sit on the verandah and enjoy the beautiful view. You'll love it!

We stayed at Bestbrook for a couple of days during the September 2013 school holidays. We set up our caravan in the Tranquility campsite section. There was plenty of space for the kids and the dog to run around. It is a great place for a family stay - the girls (age 8, 11 and 12) always had something to do - jumping across rocks in the creek, animal feeding, horse riding lessons, damper demonstrations, wagon ride, whip cracking, boomerang throwing and just enjoying being kids. The owners and staff are always happy to help out where needed. We will definitely come back for a longer stay.

We recently camped at Bestbrook for the first time. The positives included friendly staff, the opportunity for our kids to horseride and feed farm animals, and our camping spot which was absolutely glorious being right on the banks of the creek. There were some negatives though - the noise from the highway during the night was really quite bad - the sound of B double trucks seems to echo around and at times they sounded like planes coming into land. Secondly check in is 8am but check out is not until 3pm, and on a busy day like we experienced this meant that our camping spot was still occupied when we arrived, so we had to find something else to do and wait for the others to leave. Thirdly, what is with all the unregistered cars and car bodies just scattered randomly around the property? Honestly, it really takes away from the feel of the place as it looks a bit like a junkyard in spots.

Hi Julie S,
Great to see you enjoyed the activities, camp ground and staff, unfortunately there is noise from trucks at some camp grounds and its far less at others such as Gap Ck and Bore Flat. It's unfortunate about the overlap in check in and book out times for powered camp sites and usually is not a problem but occasionally when we are busy this problem occurs and we are sorry for that. The cars and trucks are slowly being removed, but remember we are a farm and some of them are used on the property. Thanks

Although you can get cabins we pitched our tent and enjoyed the tranquility campground. With a Creek running along side the camp ground the kids were occupied most of the time mucking about down in the Creek. The food in the homestead is honest fair and worthwhile when you are too tired to cook. The Billy tea and damper was the highlight for me. Good rustic family friendly entertainment.

Hi Superprofit,
Great that you enjoyed pitching the tent near the creek. Billy tea and damper is always well received and Bruce and Cyril always enjoy the activity as much as the guests. Thanks

We stayed at Bestbrook this past weekend, arriving on Friday afternoon and leaving today (Sunday) just before lunch - 2 adults with son almost four and daughter almost two. It was a great relaxing break from the city life and seemed so much longer than the two nights we were there. So easy to get to from Brisbane as well.

Our 2 bedroom cabin was very comfortable, the kitchen with small stove/oven, microwave, large fridge, kettle, toaster and all utensils, the lounge with TV and balcony overlooking the river. Soon after arriving and settling into the room I went to buy some firewood and had a beer at the bar, Ray Vincent the owner was really friendly making you feel totally welcome which was so nice. After dinner in the room we made a small campfire outside in the fireplace and went to bed - beds comfortable and warm.

After waking in the morning we enjoyed animal feeding led by Bruce - kids and adults enjoyed milking the cows, feeding the cows and sheep, holding the baby chickens and looking at other farm stuff. My son got bored when they went to the chook house, him and the older kids enjoyed playing on the old merry-go-round/swings. We also went on the wagon ride with Bruce and it was fun trying and watching others trying to crack a bullwhip and throw a boomerang...kids had an absolute ball and by 11.30am were ready to sleep.
After a short break we were making damper and later took a short drive to Warwick. We enjoyed ice creams from the IGA at the park next to the Condamine River and I visited the Freemason Lodge in town (great old building with friendly brethren!!). That night we had another campfire.

This morning the cows and horses were right outside our room and we loved feeding the horses, our son also enjoyed the parent-led horse rides and then we all had a bounce in the jumping castle to end it all off.

Fantastic family break....thank you Ray, Bruce, Ellen and all others who made the weekend so great for us and our kids.

We have been to Bestbrook several times, usually as campers, this time we had a 3 bedroom cabin as we were only there for the weekend. Once again loved every minute of it, the grounds were clean and tidy and very well looked after. Will have to stay longer than a weekend to fit in all the activities on offer, horse riding was excellent, wagon ride was so much fun with whip cracking and boomerang throwing, animal feeding, milking cows, as well as making butter and damper. The creek is picturesque and having a huge bonfire at night is a great way to relax at night. Meals in the restaurant were also delicious. Ray and Elise and all the staff are easy going and great to chat too. Highly recommend this place for anyone to go and visit.

We just came back from Bestbrook and had a great time. We were with a group of families, with quite a few school aged children. There was something for everyone. Kids loved the pool (it was quite hot), horse riding, jumping castle, animals. Like other posters, I also think it would be great if there were more showers - I got lost in my car coming back at dark one night. Toilets near us seemed to break down but the staff arranged another the next day.
The best thing about Bestbrook is the staff - very very friendly. It was like stepping back in time to my childhood ( a long time ago LOL) - so great that staff are trusting, are not totally bound by policies etc like many large, tourist attractions are.
We'll be back for sure.
