“Most amazing B&B I have ever stayed!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

My boyfriend surprised me with a quick midweek getaway to The Inn at Willow Grove on Wednesday evening Oct 30. We had tried to stay there before, but could never get in. Now I understand why. From the moment he began the planning to the moment we left, the entire experience was five stars. We have stayed at a lot of B&Bs, & this is by far the very best we have ever experienced. From Michelle in Guest Services who helped my boyfriend plan the last minute trip, to Stephen who took care of everything for us while we were there, to the restaurant staff Lisa & Amy....no one missed a thing to make this an experience of a lifetime. The Schoolhouse cottage where we stayed was simply amazing. From the fireplace to the heated tile floors in the bathroom, to the heavily tiled spa shower & cozy upstairs bedroom, no detail was spared in making these accomodations luxurious. The restaurant was very busy for a Wednesday night, but that did not take away from the service. The pork loin was melt in your mouth, & the mashed sweet potatoes were so creamy but not too rich. While the Inn is a bit pricier, it is so very well worth it. The staff went out of their way to make a special occasion extra special, & I can't wait to return for longer than one night.

Although we consider ourselves a boutique hotel and not a B&B, we're delighted that you enjoyed your experience and will certainly take the compliment. Thank you for sharing!

If you're longing for a calm, quiet break from the city, this place fits the bill. Situated on green rolling hills at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the recently renovated inn gradually lulls you into a relaxed state. It starts with a butler happily taking your bags and introducing you to the heated travertine floors in your suite, continues with a nap on a bed covered in so many layers of down you'll have to jump to get on it, and keeps going with cocktails on a private porch or in front of your in-room gas fireplace. Luxury travelers will appreciate the extras such as complimentary coffee and beignets in the morning and dessert at turn-down. The rooms vary in amenities, so you may have to choose between the soaker tub or a wet bar. However, if you do get caught without a refrigerator, the staff will gladly refill your ice bucket or offer to chill your wine. There's no downside to the location as you're close to several wineries (Early Mountain is a good bet for solid lunch fare and flights from the area), downtown Orange, and Montpelier. The only room for improvement is the food. While the shortrib was moist and tender one night, another it was tough, as was a pork chop preparation. It's the only uneven element but quickly forgotten by an otherwise fantastic experience.

Thank you for your kind words. The Inn at Willow Grove really is a special place to “escape, unwind and indulge” a world away from the every day. We’re so sorry to hear that you weren’t pleased with the short rib. This is one of our most popular dishes and receives rave reviews! We will be sure to address the inconsistency in presentation with our kitchen. Thank you for bringing it to our attention!

A getaway that has charm and eloquence all in one. My husband and I did a quick get-away from Williamsburg for one night and we were blown away by everything about the Inn. From the lovely staff to the accommodations, everything was perfect! We also had an outstanding dinner and breakfast in the restaurant. Can't wait to visit again. Thank you to Matthew and his staff for making our stay a very memorable one!

We went to the Inn last weekend. Stayed in the Butler's Cottage, which was beautiful and charming. Walked around the grounds, which were just lovely, set on rolling hills. We've stayed in some very nice places and this ranks among the top. The cottage was 3 rooms and had 2 porches (one covered), amazing desserts appeared each night in our cottage and each morning delicious, warm beignets appeared. Everything was so tasteful -- large bathroom with heated floors, towel rack, wonderful linens, etc.

When we wanted to venture out for a hike, the staff couldn't have been more helpful in pointing us in the right direction, looking up maps & trails in Shenandoah National Park for us, providing water, etc. And then they even remembered to ask how our day was later.

We had dinner in the restaurant one night and the food was delicious. The staff could not have been more accommodating -- bringing an alternative amuse bouche when I said I didn't eat meat. I overheard them make other, more complicated dietary accommodations for another guest. The waitstaff was warm and friendly without being overbearing. The restaurant is very cozy. We ended up getting dessert later in the evening in the bar area which is also charming.

Would love better outside seating near the firepits -- there was no seating for two. And would have loved a real, wood fire rather than the electric fires, but if that's my biggest criticism, I'd say they're doing pretty darn well!

I'd definitely go back. Also, can totally imagine the place as a setting for a destination wedding or other type of celebration. The school house is beautiful and we saw them taking down a tent where they'd had something shortly before we arrived.

Room Tip: Didn't see the rooms in the main inn, but Butler's Cottage was amazing!

We’re so happy that you enjoyed your stay with us. The Butler’s Cottage is a special spot for a quiet, romantic getaway a deux, but you really can’t go wrong in any of our luxurious accommodations. Whether in the Manor House or in any of the surrounding cottages, you will be sure to find elegant, comfortable, sumptuous furnishings with whimsical touches and breathtaking scenery! Our three gas fire pits are surrounded by comfortable outdoor “arm chairs”, which couples are welcome to pull together for a romantic snuggle by the fire. While we agree that the snap and crackle of an outdoor wood fire has a special charm, for reasons of fire safety the gas fire pits will have to do for now. Thank you so much for taking the time to post. We hope to have you back again soon!

Everything is top drawer: room, butler service, restaurant, pub, breakfast service, and views. We have stayed in many B&Bs and inns throughout Virginia, and there are several excellent places; the Inn at Willow Grove was a wonderful surprise and a top contender. We will definitely go again.
