“Expensive rooms, terrible service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

I spent one night here for a friend's wedding. The room was good, clean and comfortable, but expensive.
We seemed to be moved out of the restaurant fairly smartly after dinner service to a hall and attached small bar, where the service was terrible - slow and surly.
The venue is in a nice rural setting. If they can sort out the staff, service & pricing, it would be okay. Sadly though the service is so severly lacking it marred the whole event.

We spent 2 nights here for wedding. The location is stunning and perfect for a wedding service (but not the reception). The accommodation was poor. Room was small, dated and musty. Front office staff were good but wait and bar staff poor. The food was poor both before and at the wedding. Not a good venue for a wedding reception (restaurant and function area not designed for this purpose) and the drinks service was dreadful.

The setting is really nice and the main house is very nice, but everything feels a bit dated and in need of a spruce up. The restaurant was OK, nothing spectacular. Staff were friendly enough. Overall it was adequate for a conference facility but not spectacular.

We come to this neck of the woods for a day or two's R&R once oe twice a year when we can manage the time. This is the first time we have stayed away from Bowral which is the main tourist town here. The room we stayed in is the Hillside Suite. It is one notch above the standard Hillside room for $35 more a night you get a separate sitting room which is well worth it for an insomniac like me who does not want to disturb my wife's sleep. The room is not in the Manor which houses the restaurant, games room, bar etc. There is a large lounge in the Manor with a lovely fireplace which is great in the colder evenings. Our room is clean, quiet and the bed is nice and firm, the way I like it. I am a light sleeper but had a great restful sleep last night. The property has lovely grounds which is great for a wander around. All up we had a great quiet break. The price is just a bit more than the properties around this area, but I think worth it if you can afford that few dollars extra. I would also add the staff are so very friendly, thank you.

Room Tip: The restaurant at the hotel is rated one star by SMH good food guide but you should also try some of...

My husband and I stayed here for two nights in a room in the main House. After reading some rather wishy washy reviews of the place I was a tad unsure whether our stay would be OK or not! Well from the moment we stepped inside we could tell that we were going to enjoy the old world charm of this special hotel. Check in at 8.30pm was smooth and helpful and we were asked if we needed any dinner arrangements. We asked if we could get a table in their restaurant Katers at such short notice and late hour. The receptionist told us she would organise everything and to go down when were were ready. Wonderful customer service. Our room was immacuate, very cosy and comfortable, no it wasn't large but it was well proportioned and was elegantly furnished and had a wonderful relaxing "feel" to it. The bathroom was large, spotless and well appointed and the pressure in the shower wonderful!

We're so glad we chose a room in the main house as the other rooms (we peeked a look at!) would be akin to staying in any other hotel anywhere without the character that you would expect from a manor house.

We dined twice at Katers, the food was extraordinary! Highly recommend the food, atmosphere and the service. (Will review Katers separately)

All in all I would definately recommend Peppers Manor House for a wonderful relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of life. Just wandering around the many comfortable lounging rooms in the house and the beautiful gardens outside was enjoyable. It recharged my batteries and we will definately return (for longer next time!)!!

Room Tip: Book the main House for an authentic manor house experience.

Nice enough hotel ruined by the attitude of the receptionist abusing someone over the phone who was trying to cancel a reservation. When we jokingly suggested it may be more appropriate to have such telephone calls in private she snapped at us that she was very busy. We were glad we were only staying for one night as the atmosphere with the staff was cold. The room was lovely though a little expensive for what it was. I think they market it as a 5 star boutique property, but it is certainly not this.

This was our second stay at Peppers. Our first visit we stayed in a Hillside Deluxe room. The Hillside rooms are quaint, with a small sitting room adjacent to the bedroom and a wrap around deck. The surroundings of the hotel are beautiful - a kilometre long tree lined drive takes you to the main property, with the hillside rooms situated behind the main building.
This visit we had a garden room - these rooms are in a fairly new building adjacent to the main building and while bigger than the hillside rooms do not have the character of the Hillside cottages. The history of the property is interesting and the rooms in the main building are very enjoyable spaces to enjoy a drink before dinner or read the paper.
We had dinner in the restaurant our first night and we would suggest the price of the food is ambitious in comparison to what is delivered. By comparison our second night we dined at Exeter Studios , approximately 5 km from the hotel. The only way we found the restaurant was by recommendation of a staff member at the Southern Highlands Winery (which is across the highway from Peppers and well worth a visit for the cellar door, as well as a very fine looking dining room for lunch) Exeter Studio is an out of the way gem, with fantastic service and food. Easily on par with some of the better Sydney restaurants but quaint and relaxed.
We had lunch at Briars in Moss Vale - a great bustling family restaurant/pub with a char grill cook your own steaks as well as bistro service.
In Moss vale the Post cafe/bar has fantastic coffee and breakfast and super friendly staff. THe Elephant Boy in Bowral is a quirky book lined retro cafe with great coffee as well, and very good food and service.
The Southern Highlands area is a fantastic get away for a weekend - Moss Vale and Bowral have lovely attractions and friendly people. highly recommend the area. As for Peppers, it is good but not great.

Room Tip: Garden view rooms have two floors and no lift, you may want to choose a ground floor room if stairs...
