From the time you cross into Virginia from Maryland on US 13, the 75 mile stretch of highway that delivers you to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel offers a very limited dining selection. If you want to try a place that really surprised us with its quality, stop at the Sage Diner in Onley. We just could not envision another fast-food stop and were eager to find a "dining" place; the number of cars in the parking lot of the diner promised that the Sage might be the place to stop...and it was! One of three diners named "Sage" in the area, each is owned individually and we would hope that the others are as good as this one in Onley. Friendly wait staff, very large menu of standard diner food, and Sunday specials that were very reasonable (as was the entire menu). Homemade soups, fresh breads, and great desserts...too amply portioned but we managed to take the extras with us. Eastern Shore Virginia tends to be sparsely populated, with mostly fast food places, so do yourself a favor and get some very good home cooking at the Sage Diner.
