We chose to stay at the Mango Fish for our honeymoon, and we are so, so glad that we did! Fred and Lori were the loveliest host & hostess we could have hoped for, and their casita is absolutely perfect for a couple (or even a small family)! Clean, bright, adorable, artistic, with a veranda where you can breakfast on fresh mango surrounded by hummingbirds, iguanas, and wild roosters. Fred and Lori are environmental and animal-rights activists, and they are deeply connected to their community in countless ways, as volunteers and as educators---if you are like-minded (as we are), you will love staying here. We fell in love with the casita instantly. We loved the veranda. We were able to make pretty elaborate meals with the little kitchen. There is a supermarket a two-minute walk down the street for all of your needs. The Mango Fish is also conveniently located near the airport, Flamenco (and Carlos Rosario reef) and just a very short ride or walk to town. If you don't like noise, really, do not worry about the roosters or being by the airport---I am the most noise-sensitive person I know, and I acclimated immediately, using earplugs and turning on the aC fan (also, you exert yourself physically in the ocean so much that you just happily crash at the end of the day). We fell madly in love with Culebra---the island is, without exaggeration, a magical paradise. Lori said that the island touches some people profoundly, gets under their skin, beckons them back---and that is what has happened with us. We have not been able to stop talking about our adventures there. Fred gave us a tour upon our arrival, providing local history and environmental information, and an invaluable overview of the entire island. Lori was available to us at all times, helping us with advice as to where to snorkel and how to boat out to Culebrita (a must---try to go on a clear, sunny day, and you will be knocked down by the beauty). Fred told us about a restaurant in the neighborhood that was a mom & pop place, and only my husband and I were there, eating the owner's delicious fish. Rent a golf cart from Jerry's Jeeps (Jerry is a gem of a person) and you will not regret it---it makes everything you do an adventure. Other recommendations: Zaco's Tacos, the Dinghy Dock, and the dive shop downtown. We miss you, Culebra, and we miss you, Mango Fish! Thank you, Fred & Lori, with all our hearts, for helping us to have the best honeymoon---it went far beyond our expectations.
