We just got back from a week stay at the Sol and it was awesome. We travelled with our infant daughter who's 11 month old, and were a bit apprehensive before going. We contacted the resort and they responded promptly letting us know they provide cribs and have plenty of them so we didn't need to worry.
Once we arrived we were shown 3 or 4 different rooms until we found the one that suited our needs. We decided to upgrade to the ocean view which was gorgeous to look at every day while our little one napped :). The rooms are very spacious with 2 queen size beds side by side. We were given a playpen type crib for our baby, but its much larger than the playpens sold at the stores here in Canada. She loved it and slept very well in it.
The property itself is gorgeous. There are 2 beaches, one in front of the hotel, and the second on the left side across the road. The second beach is perfect for babies, as its very shallow. There are 3 pools (baby, toddlers and adults).
Food wise i agree with many other reviewers - it wasn't very good. I have never eaten so much rice and stewed beef / pork in my life. Fruit was often not ripe (papaya, pineapple). Note to the management - many of the guys working the eggs / meat sections do not know how to properly cook food! Omelettes were raw on the inside, the meat skewers totally rare on one side. One day they served 2 giant roast beefs, but we couldn't even chew it it was so tough. It was the wrong cut of meat to select for this dish... what a waste of food. We are not picky eaters so we always found something to eat, but compared to 3 resorts we visited in Holguin Sol is by far the worst.
The customer service and staff at the Sol is by far THE BEST IN ALL OF CUBA. We have been to Cuba at least 8 times and never met a team of such genuinely nice, polite and happy people. Unlike other hotels, we never felt pressured to tip. The waiters in the lobby and pool bars won't even let you make it to the bar, telling you to sit down and they'll bring your order to you. Our maid constantly kept our room stocked with water for our baby and tidied up her toy mess. The buffet staff was very attentive to us as soon as you come in. All of the staff seemed very relaxed and happy to be at work, which in my experience says a lot about the management. This made our week, good job guys, keep up the great work!
Overall we had an amazing time, and highly recommend this resort to those of you reading this.
