“Value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2013

We had a 2 week stay in January and absolutely loved it. Food is great - huge buffers packed with fresh meat and fish. staff are really friendly and want to help. We tipped a couple of peso a day and service was amazing. Entertainment is different, but is always good fun. The hotel is a little dated as are the rooms with 1990's tv's but that's the only negative. It's a really clean hotel and your guaranteed to have a good time.

We returned to the Sol Cayo Coco in June for the 3rd year running. A few small things had changed but all in all it was as we expected...............brilliant!! The staff were the same with a few newer faces and made us feel like old friends and really looked after us. We love it so much we are going back again in November and can't wait. There were some guests who were complaining about not being told that there were mosquitos. I would suggest to anyone travelling to a hot and humid country to do their research first. Mosquitos aside (and it was a particularly bad time for them when we were there due to the amount of rain they had prior to us arriving) as I have said in previous reviews DO NOT EXPECT 5 STAR. This is the equivalent to British 3 Star hotels, actually some 3 star hotels I have stayed in aren't a patch on this. There are plenty of choices for meals with 6 or 7 chefs cooking to order as well as the main servery in the middle of the restaurant. They vary from pizzas, stir-frys, crepes, fish, mussels and shrimps to roast pork (their speciality). Don't just stick to the main beach go to the public side and you will find the little Beach Bar with Jendi who will make you a lovely cocktail.

Room Tip: We paid extra for superior room with minibar and a sea view but I don't think it really matters...

We had a good deal for this hotel at the beginning of June. It was my 8th time in Cuba so i knew what to expect . Tell you what , we had i very nice surprise . The food was pretty good , the beach is lovely and we never had any problems with the cubans who are coming for the week-end . The best thing about this hotel is the service . Sure a little tip helps but can you live with twenty five bucks a month in 2013 . You know the answer so come on people , show a little bit of compassion and give those people some pesos . The hotel itself is a little bit old but everything is very clean and the rooms are OK . The bed linens and towels are outed but clean . Overall , if you have a small budget , this is the place to go in Cuba after Playa Pasquero . I would like to mention 5 very fine people who work at this hotel : first in the morning for great cappuccinos Osleidy , Yoisi and Maikel . Second for buffet , the great Yulka and finally , one of the best barman in the carribean , Duanne ( remember , he has almost nothing to work with ) . Thanks evryone for the great service .... Maybe we're going to see again.

Room Tip: Try to stay on the third floor .

Terrific hotel/resort, we visited here on the last week of June with 2 other couples and we all had a great time. The staff were absolutely amazing and friendly, they were very happy to help and provided you with a lot of information. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The food was delicious and had an excellent variety at the buffets. I think the fruit smoothies for breakfast had to be one of my favourites. The one place that I really enjoyed was the Beach Grill a la carte restaurant, the food and view were amazing, loved it!

The enterainment staff were very engaging and not pushy at all and they made you want to participate, we had a blast with the pool volleyball. Great activites at the pool and beach worth trying out for sure. We never had a problem with getting beach towels or chairs at the beach even for the 6 of us.

I will definitely return to this resort and recommend it if you want to relax, have fun and be treated very well.

I stayed at the Sol Cayo Coco the first week of June, this was my first time in Cuba when we arrived there were one of three coach loads although reception was very busy we were checked in quickly. We had a sea view room which was very big with high ceilings the room was very clean and as mentioned before the towels and sheets could do with being renewed but these were only minor complaints. We only ever went to the main beach because it always had a slight breeze but both beaches were beautiful at the weekend there were a lot of locals who came to the beach as they are public beaches but they never bothered us once and were just enjoying time with their families. The pool was very busy and around 4pm everyday the music seemed to get loud so if this is not your thing then I would advise you to go to the beach for peace and quiet.
We went to the local town of Moron this gave us a view of the real Cuba and I am really glad I went the contrast between the hotels on Cayo Coco & Moron are very different. We also went on the open top bus to Pilar beach, it took about an hour on a very windy top deck but was well worth it the beach is absolutely breathtaking and well worth a visit.
The main reason this hotel only gets a average rating from me and why I won't go back is the food. I am not a fussy eater but struggled to find something different to eat every night although their pizzas were nice. We tried to book a table at the A La carte restaurant a couple of days into our holiday but the only night available was the night we were leaving so please book early. Also the pre entertainment was on too early when most people were still at dinner. Every night we were there the entertainment was held in the nightclub which was mossie heaven and also very smokey not the nicest of of venues. In cayo coco apart from the hotels there is nothing else near so you are confined to the hotel unless you pay extra to go on the excursions.
Overall this is a nice hotel with some of the lovliest staff I have ever met and gorgeous beaches it just wasn't for me maybe if the USA ever lift the embargo I would go back as it would be interesting to see the difference.

Of all our 5 trips to Cuba sol cayo coco was definitely the best ever. Great food, resort very very clean, amazing staff, excellent service, beach was clean and very inviting, beach towel service great never had to wait, the recreation staff were great at getting guests to participation pool and beach activities. Restaurant staff knew guests preferred table and cooks saw you coming in the door and would already start your cooking favourite without you asking, groundsman keep gardens so beautiful and room staff keep your rooms so nicely cleaned and love the artwork with blankets. Water pressure perfect and air condition worked perfectly loved it!!!

We travelled to Sol Cayo Coco on June 13th and stayed for 2 weeks. There were four of us (2 couples). We arrived at the hotel at about 3ish in the afternoon and were greeted by the entertainment team with a nice soft drink and shown straight to our room (I have been on a fair few holidays and this was quite possibly the quickest check-in I have ever witnessed).

Our rooms were overlooking the miniture golf course and the sea (for which we paid no extra). We were very central to all of the hotels facilities and the rooms were much quieter than expected. We emailed the hotel prior to arrival to request a room near the other couple we were travelling with, and this was sorted for us upon arrival.

The rooms were clean and basic, but who goes on holiday to sit in there room all day anyway??! We were given a bottle of water every day and clean towels. The cleaning staff would often do pretty things with the bed linen also, which was a nice surprise when coming back to your room.

The food was good, and I personally believe that there was plenty of variety, for those looking for boring english food - stay at home. Whats the point in visiting another country if you are not going to soak up their way of life and try a bit of the local grub....however, you can still get chips anyway, which are pretty good.

The mosquitos were out in force, however, as expected...this has nothing to do with the hotel.

The entertainment team were amazing, the shows were good, and the staff would often pop over during the day for a friendly chat.

The hotel has two beaches, which gave you the best of both worlds, one was beautiful and quiet and 'picture perfect', the other was much rougher and fun. Both serve drinks.

We did the 'motor mayhem' trip, through thomas cook and paid about £100 each for this, however the staff at the hotel will sort the same thing for you for about £30....I wish we had chosen the latter, a great day out all the same and highly recommended.

We also did the dolphin trip in trinidad, well worth the £150 each, and we also did the catermeran trip, which was about £60 each, so a little pricey.

This hotel has everything you could want, its not too loud, there are not too many kids, the food is brilliant, the staff are lovely. Yes the hotel could be seen as standard, and if you want somewhere 'posh' perhaps this isnt for you. However, if you just want to have a lovely holiday and come back with some amazing memories, please please book this hotel, I recommend it highly.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the miniture golf course.

Dear guest,
Can we say THANK YOU in big letters? Your words are really motivating to keep improving our work and that’s a challenge. Our two beaches and our friendly staff make us a piece paradise, but that is just the beginning and the Travel Community needs to know. Family’s packages; appeals to fish, diving and birds-watching lovers; a daily Entertainment Program; facilities to Honeymooners, Weddings and disable persons; a variety of trips to know more about the Cuban life’s style, culture and history, as well as nature beauties; are some reasons to become a Sol Cayo Coco’s loyal guest; don’t you think? We will be pleased to welcome you and your partner once again.
