“Very nice resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

It was my first time in Cuba, in south america, and it met my expectactions.
- Beautiful resort, nice building, site, easy access to everything with a little walk. Nice colours, lively.
- Staff is helpful and friendly enough (when they are less, look at the other customers around you, I would understand why they can become a bit more friendly...)
- Pool is nice and clean.
- Beach and sand is top of the line. Awesome, lot of space.
- As in most of these resorts, I would say the beach chairs dance is ridiculous (reserved in advance vs availability), but hey, you are warned, and since you go on the beach, worst case scenario: you are on the beach!
- Bar service is up to par
- Buffet is mostly and almost always full.

- À la carte restaurants are for the service, but they don't offer better food than the buffet.
- I understand that Cuba is not the best place for food, but I would have liked to taste more different food than what we eat in North America. Still, it may not be the resort's fault (as they must try to offer the best to difficult people and lots of people that have no taste and avoid trying new things...).

- For less that 1k, you cannot complain much. I would way that the main problem is the guests themselves... the Ontarian kids on spring break were fun, but probably disturbing for other guests (not us, luckily or not), but the selfish and glutton babyboomers smelling cheap coconut are awful. Why rush and cut the line in front of someone at the buffet? There is plenty of food! And why ask for a bucket of beer? It will be flat at the end, fool.

Even though, I would recommend visiting and enjoying this resort to relax, disconnect from usual life and not be surprised to much by food.

Thank you to Memories Caribe for a nice week.

Room Tip: If you want a quieter area (far from bars and disco) request building 21-22-23-24.

We stayed from march 24-31 2013. Had a two room suite by the beach. The beach was nice for the most part, very beautiful. The room had no hot water no clean towels and had ants and cockroaches. The back door in our suite didn't lock. The room next door smelled of mold. A very select few of the staff tried to help and for the most part we were ignored if we attempted to have our problems rectified. The public relations desk, at which there was always a line up, barely understood English or any of the issues I brought up. The diamond club was a rip off. There was no premium alcohol available for diamond club. The special diamond club area was apparently only open till 10pm after we were rudely kicked out by the wait staff. The drinks were horrible for the most part, line ups were horrendous. It was normal to wait 20 mins - 1 hr for food or drink at the 24 hr snack bar. I felt bad for our housekeeper who did what she could with the horrible management in place at Memories Carribe. After staying at Memories Carribe I will not ever stay at a Memories anywhere ever! Such a poorly run establishment. I am very disappointed with Memories and Sunwing vacations.

Absolute paradise!! This was our families 5th stay at Memories Caribe. Each time it is getting better and better. We can definitely see the upgrades and changes that are being done in response to peoples reviews and to make the resort the best it can be. This year we went a little early then usual we stayed March 12-19. The weather was a little cooler but still fabulous.
From the time you get off the plane in Cayo Coco and collect your luggage there is hotel staff waiting to check you in as you board the bus. It was nice to see a familiar face (John) right away he gave us our room keys and wristbands and we were all set to go.
After an enjoyable 20 minute bus ride we were at Memories Caribe. Such a nice sight to drive through the gates and see the lush gardens. The day entertainment staff greeted us with their new ‘Memories Welcome” dance. It was a nice touch.
When we arrived at the lobby we had spoken to John at the front desk to see if there was any rooms in 2400 block open as we enjoyed it so much last time. He immediately checked and confirmed that the next morning we could change as people were leaving. However on our walk to our room we went over on that side of the resort and discovered many of the S-trip guests (large group of high school kids) were there and decided our room at 1707 was the better option. We let John know we would like to keep our original room. Within 10 minutes of arriving to our room our bags were brought by the amazing Wilbur. He has the most welcoming smiling and is so friendly.
One thing that we thought of after helping a few families that had never been to the resort before. There is no longer a map given out or directions to your rooms. This makes finding your room a little difficult when you don’t know the resort layout. Perhaps a map given with the room cards at check in could help with this. We also think that the staff need name tags. We heard many people saying the same thing. It would be nice to be able to name the people we appreciate as some we don’t catch their names when having a conversation.

We were in block 17 room 1707 this year. Our first ground floor room. We thought we would have a bug issue but not at all. In the fall may be a different story but for spring not a bug in the room at all if we kept the door or screen closed. It was nice being able to head out for the day from your terrace or run in quick from the beach. We were at the back of the resort where it was nice and quiet. Our room was the usual 2 doubles and a pull out which is very comfortable. The pillows have been upgraded which was very nice. They are body pillow size and have some stuffing to them now. There wasn’t really a need for our ikea pillows from home this trip. We bring a converter but have never used it. Most electronics have a built in one now so just check in case. We bring a laptop for movies and to transfer our millions of pictures too and charge that and the cameras and cell phones with no problem at all. Our maid Dianis was wonderful she cleaned the room spotless and made beautiful towel art for us. Her hardwork was appreciated. The only problem with the room we noticed was the shower head holder was broken, not a big deal but to some it may be. I’m sure they would have fixed it if we had complained. We just held the hand held shower head and all was good. We never had a problem with the water; we showered after breakfast and before dinner. If you are not trying to shower one after another along with your neighbours you are ok. This wasn’t a problem as they got up early and ate dinner late so neither room was bothered by cold water. For anyone that complains of no hot water, unless you have a tankless system in your house your tank is going to run out. Two rooms share a water tank and it can only go so far.
Once we got settle we were off to find our Cuban friends to see who was still at the resort and who had moved along to other resorts. It was so nice to see almost everyone is still there. Our first stop was the buffet restaurant as we were starving. When we walked in the main doors of the buffet from the back corner our favourite breakfast/lunch server Jaimsley immediately welcomed us back with hugs and even remember the table we sat at 6 months ago. I made sure that I went for breakfast each morning so I could talk a little with Jaimsley. She is so kind and makes sure everyone is happy. We absolutely love her. We never go hungry at Memories. Our youngest and I love the pancake and then pasta station. Hubby loves the grill. The stir fry grill cook was outstanding he asked everyone where they were from and really tried to get to know you. Things like that stand out. We heard many people commenting on how much they loved him and what a great job he does, wish we caught his name though. There is always a wide variety of foods to eat for all meals. Pasta, pork, beef, fish, shrimp potatoes, veggies and fruits. The bread is freshly made and delicious. We never went hungry. We did notice that there is more ‘Canadian’ food now we missed a few of the original Cuban offerings but our friends said they might be opening a Cuban restaurant in the resort to offer more of a selection. We hope this is true. Maybe our family is the only ones but we love a traditional Cuba meal.
The pool bar service has upgraded since the fall. They now have 2 servers who go around to the tables for drinks and food. There was always a bartender for the pool area and one for the seating area. We only occasionally ordered through the servers as we prefer to go up to the bar or snack bar to see and talk with the bartenders or cook. We like getting to know all the staff but this is a nice touch when the lines get long you can sit and relax while waiting for food or drinks. When we did order with the servers they were both very friendly and got our orders perfect. All the staff can speak English very well and we never had any problems with a language barrier. We never felt pressured to tip anyone. We always tip after the service if it was regular it’s a regular tip if extra then we tip extra as appreciation. As always everyone at the resort is amazing and goes out of their way for you. One reason we love this place. The staff remembers you and it’s a wonderful touch.
The pool was a little chillier then we were used to but I guess 3 weeks makes a big difference. By the end of the week it was warming up. The pool area was always clean and they have added some new shaded areas and more seating. They were adding new cabanas and adding a fence by the lobby outdoor seating area during the end of our stay. There was a variety of activities offered during the day at the pool from dance lessons, Spanish lessons, kid’s games and crazy games for the adults. Gerard with the day entertainment is awesome. He makes his rounds by the pool seeing how everyone is and if they would like to join in with the activity he is setting up for. He is never pushy just an all round great guy.
The beach was where we spent most of our time. The tide was out quite far which left a nice sand bar about 20 minutes from the wide beautiful beach. As everyone else says this beach is beautiful the white sands and clear blue waters are amazing. They have the day entertainment staff at the beach in the mornings doing dance lessons, water aerobics and some games. A few mornings some seaweed had blown in on the shoreline but by 9am they had it all cleared away from and moved down the beach away from all the guests. Every day we could walk out 200 feet and only be up to your waist. We walked out towards the right of the beach and found so many shells and marine animals. The beach itself is quite wide there is enough room for 3-4 rows of chairs where you are not on top of each other and plenty of sun shelters if needed.
Sandros at the beach bar is by far our favourite bartender. As always he made us his ‘special’ drinks. He is always so happy and gets along with everyone. They have a grill at the beach where you can get hamburgers and hotdogs. It was nice as you didn’t have to leave the beach for lunch.
They have moved the market to by the beach in a nice gazebo. There were many things to choose from. Wooden crafts, hand crafted jewelry, knick knacks, some clothing etc. They have a store and excursion booking desk and car rental all by the lobby.
We didn’t do any booked excursions this time. We rented a car from George and went to visit some friends. The excursions are well worth it. The Moron with boat package is great for a little bit of everything for an excellent price.
The main reason we return again and again to Memories is Humberto with the night entertainment dance crew and Brenna at the International restaurant beside the buffet. They are family to us and they always make sure we have the best time while in Cuba. This trip we had the pleasure of enjoying a wonderful dinner at International restaurant courtesy of Brenna. The restaurant has a beautiful atmosphere and the food was delicious. Brenna made us feel like we were at a very expensive restaurant, anything you need she has it and she moves around through her guests without interrupting their meals. She is the best server we have ever had both here at home and in Cuba. She is amazing at her job.
The night entertainment dance crew is another of our favourites of the resort. The current team works so well together. They are seamless. They are repairing and improving the stage so the performances were at the beach one night and the disco the other nights. Humberto and our youngest plotted against us and had hubby and I participate in the Pirates night beach party. It was a lot of fun doing the crazy games. We thoroughly enjoy the performances by the dance crew. Each night they have a different theme. Humberto is such an amazingly talented dancer. He absolutely loves what he does and it shows with his beautiful smile. He always makes sure people are enjoying themselves and encourages everyone to get up and enjoy the Memories dance afterward. He is amazing with kids and loves to get them involved in the dance and teaches them the steps. Yasmani, another of our favourites he is a talented dancer who has so much spirit that flows through him as he dances. Leosel and La China are very graceful dancers they have incredible ballet ability. When they dance together there is magic around them. It is beautiful to see. Danai, Mailin, Yuyi and Betsi are a terrific group of ladies they have such high energy and incredible flexibility and are all beautiful dancers. Thank you to all the dancers you are all amazing we love seeing your performances it is a great end to every night.
This trip hubby decided to see what Diamond club was all about as this was our 5th time maybe we would give it a try. We went back to John and he told us as we are returning guests we had to see customer relations and they would offer us a deal. We weren’t looking for anything special but will take a deal if offered. We were a little disappointed with customer relations. We seemed to be taking up her time when we explained that John told us to see her as it was our 5th stay and would like to upgrade to diamond club. We did not ask for it for free just what it was. She did not seem to know what was all included and was not even sure of the price. We thanked her and decided we would find out from someone else. The next morning we went to book for a dinner reservation at 10:20am the same girl was there and she told us they were all booked for that night. We found out later that there was only 4 other seating’s at the restaurant that night. Our last encounter with the same customer relations staff was when we asked when check out was. Usually we get 4 pm without paying however this time it was noon and pretty much who cares if you’ve been here before. After finding out many other 1st or 2nd time vacationers had gotten late check outs and upgrades and returning guest dinners we were a little irked but had another beverage and got over it. We did not let the customer relations staff bring us down or change our view of Memories it was one person who maybe was having a bad week.
We still love this resort and already have planned our return for the fall. For anyone looking for a quiet resort this is the perfect place. There are many activities to do and all the usual excursions but this is not a big party resort which is a plus to us. Great place to relax and unwind and enjoy your time in paradise. We enjoyed meeting a wonderful Italian family and thank you to them for the great conversation while waiting for our plane home.

Last week we enjoyed short stay at the hotel. A group of friends in their thirties we were exploring Cuba and decided to enjoy some relaxing days on the beach based on the great recommendations from tripadvisor. All is great if you are there just to relax with your family and don’t expect any night life. The DJ in the disco club from hotel amenities was playing outdated music and did not accept any of our proposals to play our music, though there were no other visitors in the bar. There is a Disco club nearby however it was not working as well.
The rest of the staff were great, very helpful and cheerful, which contributed to our good mood these days.
In general the hotel is clean, well maintained, the water pressure in bathrooms is not good at evenings, but it seems it is a common issue in Cuba.

Just a quick note to say how much we enjoyed our return trip to Memories Caribe. We vacationed there last year and had such a good time that we rebooked for this year ! My family has vacationed at several different island destinations before, but none has been as easy to enjoy as this one. There is minimum delay from the airport to the reception, and our lack of spanish comprehesion was not an issue. ILeiny was excellent at the front desk and made us feel like family instead of clients. The weather was great, the beach beautiful and the pool awesome. The entertainment staff was very good, and tried to keep activities around the pool and beach fun and lively. Judy was allot of fun and made sure we participated by being sweet and was not upset if the drinks needed attention too. I would also like to thank the bar staff for their hard work. They worked well together and made sure you were looked after as soon as possible. I would like to thank Juan Carlos for the excellent rum punches and praise him for his ability speaking and understanding english, he made us feel at home. I actually found the food better this year versus last year. There seemed to be more of a selection for the picky eaters in my family, and there was always alot available. The wait staff were also very friendly and spoke english very well. The room was well serviced by the maid staff, and was a real treat to find that the airconditioner was not reset to a higher level ! We travelled here last February and in March this year, and there was no noticeable difference in weather or temperature. We are definetly going back to Memoeries Caribe Cayo Coco next year and can't wait to say Hola to all our friends we have made there !!

Room Tip: We had second floor rooms last year, but found no difference with our ground floor rooms this year.

Vacation week of march 17th...if you are looking for a fantastic beach, nice staff, clean rooms, great food..I would recommend. For price vs value I would give them a 6. I visited with my mother and my teen son. The beach was spectacuar...in the morning you could walk on the beach with low tide...go into the sea onto sand dunes. SIt in the middle of the sea, watch the fish, be at peace. You could fnd spots to swim or sunbath with or without people. Horse back riding on the beach; 2 hour glass bottom boat great options to break up the day..both a bit to pay worth it.The beach staff where curtious, we had sufficient seating except when visitors took the diamond seating and played ignorant. The staff would always compensate by finding chairs. Volley ball, excersise on the beach. The front desk staff was curtious, Jen at the diamond club desk who was quick to arrange special dining and trips. The bar staff where exceptional, Yaser was aways ready with my double expresso; Armondo worked the bar, the dining room, aways friendly. Mark was always ready to make us laugh and dance.Great evening shows especially the pool show. The pool bar was open 24 hours, staff always curtious professional at all hours. The buffet was exceptional.. good choice of options..breakfast my son loved crepes and donuts for breakfast, I enjoyed the fruit, omlet made to my request, great cheeses and breads. The chefs where always ready to serve you with specialities from shell fish, fish, various meats and pasta's. Great variety for lunch and dinner. Dinner had theme nights; ala carte restaurant recommend Itatian, Cuban, International in that order. Sufficient shopping options for shopping specially for cuba; store hour including the bank long hours; internet access available recommend purchase minuite card at front desk; considering access was fairly good. Activities scheduled if you wanted to participate; good tennis court; messages reasonably priced; good opion of tours. Rooms normal for cuba, clean. Rooms located in low rise 2 story building and bungalows. I watched the maids take the rooms apart. Our room was always clean and unique art displayed with towels. I watched the sun come up from our balcony and the sun go down from the hotel tower (what a view). The management was visible, friendly and helpful...Ernesto was always supporting the dining room staff. The people have pride in their work and do a great job serving the many needs of the visitors. One of the few places I will be returning. My recommendation for the bar..daily coctail special; they have a great coffee menu already. A great vacation. Enjoy.

Room Tip: If you have young children or have any physical challenges pick the bungalow or first floor rooms.
