I've spent the last 20 years searching for the perfect beach with great bars. I think I've found the place on White Bay, Jost Van Dyke. The Soggy Dollar and Ivan's Local Flavor Stress Free Bar just down the beach are the best there are. This is a beach that you must take a boat to reach, so the crowds are kept to a minimum, and the folks that are there are primarily from sailboats. The tables are set in the perfect white sand, there are several hammocks stretched between palm trees. The signature drink is a delicious blend of pineapple, orange, and dark rum with fresh nutmeg grated on top - The Painkiller.

For fun - you have people and boat watching, soft tropical music, frolicking in the gentle and warm Caribbean water, and the ring toss game. Try the chicken roti at the Soggy Dollar for lunch - yummo!

Ivan's bar is a hut decorated with graffitti, autographed pictures, and shell art. It's a very laid back, self-serve place, where you keep your own tab on the honor system! When we first arrived I really couldn't believe that part was true, but after a few days there and meeting Ivan, you realize that no one would ever dream of stealing from him! He also plays the guitar, and is a friend of Kenny Chesney.

I would venture to bet this little island won't stay a secret for long. I'm almost sad to tell you about it for just that reason. I'm going back soon while it's still PERFECT!

Just got back from a wonderful experience island hopping in the Virgin Islands. Day trip to Jost Van Dyke visiting Foxy's and the Soggy Dollar Bar was too much fun. Foxy's was closed because it was off season, but Foxy himself was there to share some wonderful stories with us.The Soggy Dollar Bar is on one of the most beautiful beaches that I have ever seen. We even managed to snorkle in caves on Norman island. The best vacation that I have ever had!!!!!!!!!

Jost Van Dyke is a small island in the BVI, unspoiled with friendly locals. The currancy is the US Dollar. It's small, but we never got bored. There are several snorkeling sites on the island itself, and if you need more, go to JVD Scuba & rent a dingy or book an excursion with Capt. Harvey. Rent a car/jeep for sure or you'll miss a lot of the island. That way you can easily get to Foxy's Taboo & also to Little Harbor to each lobster. White Bay has little beach bars up & down it, - it's the happening beach to be during the day. At night, you can eat at several locations, we thought the Sandcastle/Soggy Dollar had the best food, but enjoyed Foxy's & Ivan's barbeques. Mostly, we just liked hanging out meeting people from all over & having nothing to do, nothing planned, just letting the day unfold. We did do 2 snorkeling excursions, go the the Indians for sure, then Willie T's - gotta do a shot-ski and Pirate's Cove all at Norman Island. Also, the Baths at Virgin Gordon - way cool. Some people like to stay elsewhere & visit JVD, but I'd rather rub shoulders with the locals & be able to enjoy the whole island. No agenda to get back. We also made best friends with the island Gigilo, Chee Chee a friendly little Chiquaqua, looking for some food in exchange for his friendship, don't let his lame leg fool you, that little guy gets all over the whole island, he actually came down to the ferry to see us off, no kidding! See pictures, also Foxy's dog Taboo running with his grandson. So far our favorite vacation by far. Can't wait to go back, I felt truly at home there. Bring bug spray, & conditioner to spray on your hair & a good SPF tanning lotion & leave most of your clothes at home. I brought 10 swinsuits & wore every one of them. Shorts, T-shirts or for night a low cut top if you want to dress up, one good pair of water shoes, one good pair of flip flops - I never wore my high heel sandals or athletic shoes/ tennies. Stay at White Bay Villas - it's by far the best. Or if you like to rought it, pitch a tent at Ivan's for like $8.00 a night. This island stole my heart. My husband and I hope to return again next year.

I have never experienced a place like this. We've been all over the world, and this has got to be one of the most beautiful beaches we've seen. We stayed on Jost for 3 nights. White Bay Beach is amazing. Look at the pictures but they don't do it justice. Visit Ivan's, have a painkiller down the beach, eat at Corsairs. The water is warm, views amazing, and sand like you've never seen.

This is for the rugged and relaxed.

Pure heaven on earth.

Taking the ferry from Tortola was great, as there is a grocery store right at the marina. A $5 taxi ride around the bay to where the ferry picks you up to go to Jost. We stayed at The Pink House, which I would highly recommend. 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, full kitchen, etc. We had it all, plus the bonus of a semi-private beach and walking distance along the beach to Ivans, Soggy Dollar, Gertrudes, and One Love (our favorite).

I have never been to a more beautiful beach or charming island. It hasn't really been "discovered" and modernized by tourists yet, although there are many "day trippers" in yachts who pull in across from the Soggy Dollar for the afternoon.
