This is a fantastic Inn. Idyllic setting, great rooms and extremely helpful and friendly service. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff here, they went out of their way to make us welcome. We had dinner in the restaurant and they went out of their way to accomodate my dietary requirements. Breakfast was good also. Would certainly stay here again if visiting the area.

I guess I am disappointed with the restaurant at Neddie's Harbour Inn, even though we have eaten there several times in previous years with positive experiences. This past August we had a meal that was inferior to past years. From a service point of view, we felt we were obigatorily, rapidly escorted through the meal with a sense of being "force fed".
This Inn is in a location with spectacular views of the Tablelands and the south-east arm of Bonne Bay. I hope the restaurant returns to its' former standard.

We had an extended stay in Gros Morne, 9 days in all, and we stayed at Neddies for the whole time. This was one of those trips where my wife & I were both kind of burned-out from our jobs and just wanted a place where we could just relax and recharge the batteries. Neddies filled that need in every way. You can just go and sit on one of the deck chairs, look out at the spectacular view of Bonne Bay and feel the stress melt away. Or relax in the spectacular Sun Room with a cocktail. You can hike in the park for hours until you're ready to drop, sea kayak, visit the local communities, take boat rides, whatever.

The rooms were very clean, bright and tastefully decorated with a nice Scandinavian feel. We moved around a couple of times and our favorite room was 214 Deer Arm. This was by far the largest of the 3 rooms we were in as it is a suite. Keep in mind that everything is set low in this suite in order to make it wheelchair accessible. The other 2 rooms were also on the main floor and were similarly decorated. At night, you can't beat opening the windows and having that fresh Newfoundland air waft over you as you drift off to sleep.

There have been several comments about the rooms being noisy. While this is true, we never experienced any noise past 10:30 - 11:00 pm. Most people staying here were like us, in bed early so they can be up early and get out to enjoy the numerous adventures. So, don't let that be a deterrent ... but if you are particularly sensitive to noise, put a couple of earplugs in your suitcase.

The staff here are terrific, especially the girls in the dining room. They were always there to greet with a smile and fresh hot coffee. Breakfast was perfect .. always cereal, lots of fresh fruit, and a daily variety of hot items such as pancakes, eggs, etc. More than enough to start a full day of activities. Dinner was outstanding in every way .. simply brilliant! The chef at Neddies can compete with the best on the west side of Newfoundland. We often bumped into the owner Bettina after returning from our daily excursions and she always greeted us with a warm smile and welcome. She was also a fabulous source of information and gave some great tips about the local trails.

To be honest, I'm not sure what some people are expecting when I see comments like "no local character and charm". We absolutely loved the character and charm of this place. We came to Neddies to regain our sanity and get back to living and we absolutely got that. Neddies truly is the perfect getaway. Can't give a better compliment than to say we'll definitely be coming back.

Thank you so much for your in-depth review. I'm glad you touched on the design / style issue. It is indeed very difficult to discuss these things publicly because they depend so much on peoples personal taste. But like you, the vast majority of our guest do compliment our design team.

After reviewing several possible accommodations available in the area we chose Neddie's Harbour Inn based on reviews from travellers who left comments on trip advisor. On arrival on September 07, 2011, our party of 4 were met by a very friendly staff member . She suggested we may want to consider dinner reservations as space was limited. We decided to make the reservation and the staff member arranged a time that was convienient for us. (My wife and I have been in the Gros Morne region before and there are not a lot of fine dining restaurants around)
ROOMS. Our Rooms were very clean, modern, spacious and comfortable. The hardwood floors were spotless. We spent a couple of hours before dinner walking around and enjoying the beautiful scenery of Bonne Bay. The common area was very comfortable and had very powerful bincoculars available for everyone's enjoyment.
DINNER. The dining room tables are nicely spaced and we had great views in the area we were seat. We chose the special, "Pan Seared Halibut" and were not disappointed. Excellent. The best part of dinner was the dessert..nicely presented and delicious.
BREAKFAST. Major disappointment! We arrived at 7:30am and were the first to sit down in the restaurant. A hostess pointed out the breakfast choices, some of which were sitting in heater pans. The choices were cereal, fried eggs, porridge and pancakes. Looked good BUT when we tried the eggs, they were cold. Next, tried the porridge it was cold!. Tried the Pancakes they were cold. Under the heater pan it appeared there was only one liquid burner and obviously not enough to keep the pan or food heated.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this well kept and maintained Inn but were not satisfied with the breakfast.

Room Tip: I would suggest that most of the rooms on the 2nd and 3rd levels are satisfactory (some may not have...

Thank you so much for your review, I am so happy to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. I too am disappointed that you did not have a good experience at breakfast. Your comments are important as they help us to improve. We will certainly look into ways to ensure that the hot dishes on our buffet stay hot. I do need to explain however about the cold porridge. The dish you are referring to was actually "Muesli", a mixture of oatmeal, fruit, maple syrup and yogurt that is meant to be served and eaten cold. It is a European recipe. I apologize for the confusion as I can understand how you would assume it was porridge if you had not eaten it before. I think a little card placed in front of the dish, explaining the recipe, would help in the future.

staying in an Ikea showroom. Whilst the staff are very helpful and welcoming, this accommodation lacks atmosphere and character. Its too clinical.
We managed to book an evening meal and had to stand waiting for a good 5 minutes whilst the only waitress set our table. Not a good start to the evening.
The meal was very nice but we wondered why everything has to be served on plates which don't look straight until you have had at least 5 bottles (of overpriced) beer.

The restaurant is like the rest of the hotel and lacks atmosphere and ambience. It has to be said that the best thing of all were the desserts which were beautifully presented and delicous.

Breakfast was odd to say the least. Cereals were availabe which was fine until you realised they had put out the smallest bowls I have ever seen. My cat has a larger food bowl !

There was fresh fruit, yoghurt, scrambled egg and frittata which was very fine. There was also some kind of cake which was tasty but not replenished when it ran out. Whilst it was all perfectly nice, it was lacking and we still felt hungry.

I must say this is the noisiest hotel I have ever stayed in. Some of the noises are quite bizarre especially in the restaurant.
It would have been nice to have had more than one coat hanger in the wardrobe !!!!
That said, Neddies is clean with helpful friendly staff.

Room Tip: Not sure about which room to choose, but you need to book for an evening meal and you should bear th...

I'm sorry that Neddies Harbour Inn couldn't meet your expectations and many thanks for the compliments to our staff. Without going in to a discussion over taste or design of furniture or tableware I would like to mention that yes there is one piece of IKEA furniture in each of our rooms which is the award winning Poeng chair. Every other piece of furniture in our rooms is unique and custom made for Neddies Harbour Inn by local people using Newfoundland wood.

At first glance, squeaky clean and modern. In practice, no local character and charm. Our room on the first floor was half below ground with no view. The noise transfer from the room above was intolerable and inexcusable. The controls for the bath and the wall mounted soap dispenser cannot be reached from the tub. In all, a letdown.

Room Tip: Get the second floor
