“Very pleasant stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2014

We stayed with Doris and Tom for four nights. The room was not very large to accommodate 3 people with luggage. However, it was spotless, fresh, nice wooden floor. They prepared and served excellent breakfast accommodating various dietary needs! They gave us helpful advises for the area. It was pleasure staying with them. They are close to nice trails in the tableland area, including Green Gardens.

We spent two nights at this beautiful B and B. Our hosts Doris and Tom made us feel very welcome and comfortable. The location is wonderful if you want to explore the beauty of Gros Morne National Park. The view is spectacular from their hilltop location. They offered a variety of breakfast options; a great start to the day. Doris is an enthusiastic storyteller and Tom is a great accordion player. The porch and deck would have been wonderful to sit on to enjoy the view if the weather had been sunnier. We hope to return again to further explore the area.

Tis lovely B&B is situated on a hill with beautiful views. The rooms are large, comfortable, well appointed with excellent ensuite bathrooms. Tom and Doris are friendly hosts. Breakfast is very good and you are given a choice of several possibilities. Close to the sea, hiking trails etc. this is the place to stay in Trout River.

Absolutely our favourite B&B in Newfoundland.. Hey, where else can you obtain first quality accommodation, excellent breakfasts and--if you are really nice--perhaps some live music! Tom and Doris Sheppard--a lovely couple--run a delightful B&B with each room theme decorated--we were assigned "the Lavender" room--perhaps because we were 'purple with envy' at their location high above Trout River (former home of a dead whale) and the magnificence of Gros Morne's geology. This is a B&B where you are only a stranger for 10 minutes-- thereafter, you are almost family! (Doris will prove it with her albums of photos of all her guests). Tom has a collection of button accordions including one antique donated by a previous guest from Leamington Ontario. If you are really nice you might be able to persuade Tom to play and even sing. Of course, if you do then it is essential that you also ask Doris to play the traditional Newfoundland "Ugly Stick". As a duet they are incredible and so much fun. This is, perhaps, the most "home-like" B&B we've ever encountered. And, of course, Trout River has an exceptional fish restaurant down at the beach. Great Fun--live entertainment (if you are nice!)--lovely rooms and a wholesome breakfast. Also, a nice collection of nature books for consultation.

Room Tip: Ask about the "Ugly Stick"-- another of Newfoundlands great musical instruments.

We have just thoroughly enjoyed a 2 night stay here. Our hosts were very friendly and obviously passionate about what they do and doing to as good a standard as possible.
We were made to feel very welcome and feel that we have left not only have made a business transaction as part of our holiday, but having made new friends.
We will be looking for a reason to return...

The weather may have been bitterly cold, wet and grey but the welcome we received from Tom and Doris, and the care they took of us throughout our stay could not have been warmer.
The setting of the B&B is breathtaking - set up on one of the highest points in Trout River with panoramic views in every direction.
The rooms were spotlessly clean and very comfortable, and the breakfast the next morning one of the best we had during our trip.
We loved every minute of our stay and we will certainly be back.

Inside the amazing Gros Morne National Park, just before entering the cozy village of Trout River, on top of a small hill lies this nice and modern B&B where you can feel like home! The owners are really polite, fun and available to your needs.
Doris prepared dinner too and it was as delicious as the breakfast, so it is a place I strongly suggest, plus it is open off season and this is good for people who like to travel in peace!
