“The place to stay in Twillingate”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

The Management and staff went out of their way to ensure a pleasant stay. Great food at the restaurant. But I have to say the beds were the best I have slept in. And the pillows, oh the pillows!!! Usually I always carry my own pillow but I didn't need it here. Wonderful place to stay.

Take a room in this hotel, not a suite. The suite we got was on the back, had no view, tended to have noise from every door or footstep, and was pricy. Breakfast was on our own. The second night we were moved to a room and it had a view of the harbour, was nicely furnished, and quiet. Much more reasonably priced, too.

Thanks for your review. We understand that the suites often have a vibrant atmosphere with families or friends traveling as a group during our peak season. We are pleased to hear that you found the hotel room more suitable to your needs.

Stayed in the suites up the hill. Good size living area with a very well stocked kitchen. Bedrooms on the small side but easily suited our needs. Very comfortable beds. Great muskoka chairs on the main deck. Enjoyed having a glass of wine and talking to the other guests. Used the barbecue and cooked some fish bought locally. Very good value and very clean.

Personally I don't rate hotels according to how nice their location is. Twillingate is without doubt a good place to stay and we much liked being there. The town straggles round an extensive harbour, and pretty much anywhere round that crescent will afford great views.

The hotel itself has the ambiance of a place that used to be a middling Best Western- the layout of the rooms and style of bathrooms leads to that impression; so the rooms are certainly adequate but in no way characterful or special. Service in the restaurant can be slow when it's busy and whilst they put that down to cooking everything from scratch, but the conclusion we drew is that they don't have enough staff to cope with cooking for and serving a full restaurant in a timely fashion. Just as an example we ate an 8 course tasting menu in a London restaurant this week in a fraction over two hours- all prepared from scratch in a full restaurant with no undue waits. Service in the hotel, and restaurant was variable- sometimes very good, sometimes rather less so.

Stay again? Well we enjoyed Twillingate and the Anchor was OK- maybe I'd be tempted to give somewhere else a try next time. .

Thank you for taking the time to review your experience in Twillingate and at the Anchor Inn Hotel and Georgie's Restaurant. We regret that you experienced slow dinner service. You are right: it is busy times that provide a true test to sleek service. It is important to us that all guests have a lovely stay and dining experience, regardless of how busy it is. We value your feedback and we continue to review our work processes and technology to streamline the experience every guest has at our establishment.

We stayed two nights in a one bedroom harbor view suite. It was immaculate, comfortable and had a small kitchen which was an unexpected bonus. We ate, both evenings, at Georgie's and the food and service were above average. The owner is present at all times and is both gracious and welcoming. She speaks to all guests and is always interested in your feedback. We would highly recommend this small hotel to all. We went to the Kitchen Party at the Captain's Pub downstairs and got "screeched", in addition to meeting many people. Karen Churchill is a great entertainer. The Anchor Inn is first class.

Room Tip: Harbor view rooms are great.

We celebrated our 30th anniversary with a 1 week vacation thru-out Newfoundland ; and Twillingate was a 2-night stay. The Anchor Inn was a superb small hotel with a to-die-for location overlooking the harbour. Parking was plentiful and extremely convenient. Our room was decorated with local artwork which was very impressive to view. The beds were ever so comfortable and sleeping in the evening was very peacefull. The location of the inn provided very easy access to all parts of Twillingate, and it's close to an abundance of eateries, shops, fishing harbour and tour operators. The two owners : Wilma and Deborah kindly delivered a 30th anniversary greeting card to our room; which was a nice and classy touch for us as their guests. We did enjoy 2 mornings of very tasty and plentiful continental breakfasts in the dining facility. If you have any reason to travel to, or within 200 km's of Twillingate, make sure you take the time to experience at least 1 night's stay, at the Anchor Inn. You just won't want to leave !!

Room Tip: If you prefer lots more space and a superb elevated view, select the suites in the upper building.

This is the place to stay. Try to get the newer building above the hotel, especially good for suites with two bedrooms (and large common area, full kitchen, etc.). The view from up top is amazing. Our room was a very good price for what we got. We were able to pick up some large mussels in town (really cheap) and have a fantastic homemade supper. The location is great for the view as well as exploring the area.

Room Tip: Newer building up the hill has a great view. Rooms were a bit small but fine for our purposes.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We encourage visitors to try Twillingate's fresh seafood, whether it is at our own Georgie's Restaurant or cooked at the facilities in our Hilltop Suites. Since your visit we have added a BBQ to the large deck at the Suites - on your next visit, try a piece of fresh salmon on the grill!
