My wife and I attended a work’s Christmas do here. Berni Inn is located above what is locally known as the ‘Fudge Factory’, off the main street in the village of Whitworth, North of Rochdale. Unsurprisingly the proprietor is a lady called Berni.
The venue itself is clean and tastefully decorated. It’s bar sells a limited range of alcoholic beverages and soft drinks, prices being what you might expect in a restaurant.
Berni Inn normally offers a sit-down meal service, but on this occasion the food was served as a running buffet, for which everyone queued. The dishes were of various cuisines, including Italian, Spanish and Indian, with additional traditional English Xmas fare such as Turkey, Pork, Pigs-in-blankets, Roast Potatoes and stuffing. The food was of good quality, tasty, and plenty laid on, but as with all buffets by the time you got the plate to your table the hot dishes were lukewarm.
There was entertainment provided, being a 2-piece band, who performed a rather strange musical set, particularly for a pre-Xmas celebration. At one point they played Chris Rea’s ‘Road to Hell’, which is hardly upbeat or festive.
Altogether the price per head was £15, including the food and entertainment, which is good value. Free car parking available at the front of the establishment.
There was one major thing that let the place down, when we first entered my wife kept her coat on for the first half hour as the room was quite chilly. So if you visit in the winter, wear something warm.
