“The Villas Residence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2013

We have just spent the weekend here. It's a stunning boutique hotel less than 5 minutes away from Rochdale City Centre by taxi. A great hotel for a romantic weekend away (this hotel actually looks like its website photos so what you see is what you will get), its small and intimate but with the freedom to come and go as you please. Its set back from the road so no noisy traffic; you could easily be in the middle of nowhere. Very tranquil with the service/cleanliness second to none. This little hotel easily beats many bigger and more well-known hotels (including The Wardorf and Hiltons) who could learn a thing or two from this hotel. Breakfast is freshly cooked to order and hot and the usual tea/coffee in the rooms are a step up from the usual you find in most hotels. Not the sort of hotel you would expect in Rochdale but it makes Rochdale worth a visit just to stay at this hotel. There's no lift at the hotel but the pictures and stained glass stairway makes the walks up and down easy.

Room Tip: All the rooms are as you see on their website so whatever you pick, you'll love it. Rooms are a...

My husband stumbled across this establishment whilst looking online for somewhere for us to go to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. We often go down to London & go to a show, however the Hotel we usually stay in was fully booked, so when he said he had found an interesting alternative & we were going to a lovely B&B in Rochdale, I was somewhat surprised to say the least! Fortunately, hubby got it right (they do occasionally) and the Villas Residence was right up my particular street as I am interested in Antiques & this place is absolutely heaving with them.
When we arrived we were greeted and made welcome by Anita who immediately offered us a glass of wine & a guided tour of the whole house. Each of the five rooms we saw were stunning and individually themed, such as the Victorian & Tudor rooms etc. We chose to stay in the Oriental Room on the first floor, which has en-suite facilities, however the next time we visit, and there most definitely will be a next time, we would like to try the Art Deco room on the top floor. Our room was not a disappointment, it was spacious, immaculately clean and full of interesting antiques, the bed was exceptionally comfortable and there was a plentiful supply of tea, coffee & biscuits!
Our host Paul was very friendly and interesting to talk to about the property, he was very helpful with directions to the Waterside Restaurant, which we had already booked for our evening meal and is also highly recommended, and he did everything possible to make sure we had an enjoyable stay.
We enjoyed a lovely Full English Breakfast, cooked to order by Paul, and there were plenty of cereals, fruit, yogurts, toast & preserves on offer to set us for the day as well as a selection of fruit juices, tea and coffee.
Just one note on a previous comment, the car park is at the front of the property, the lady in question had clearly made the same mistake as we did initially and parked at the back of next door neighbour's house.

Room Tip: The Oriental room has good en-suite facilities but no bath. The shared bathrooms all have lovely, la...

I had been planning on trying this place as I have to go to Rochdale on business fairly regularly and had been told about the place by one of my customers. In short, it is like staying in something like a cross between a fine country house and an antique shop. The owner is an antique dealer which explains the former comment and everywhere you look...every shelf, every nook, cranny and bit of wall space in both the communal areas as well as in the bedrooms is adorned with something interesting to look at. My room (top floor, massive, with separate bathroom) was really very good indeed - comfortable, spacious, well appointed and with good quality WiFi. Breakfast was excellent - I opted for the smoked salmon and scrambled egg and was very pleased with the good quality smoked salmon and well prepared soft and properly seasoned eggs. Everything about the breakfast spoke of quality from the fresh ingredients, the good quality cafetiere coffee and even the fine bone china that the food was served on. Bonne Maman bitter marmalade (my marmalade of choice at home) was a lovely finishing touch. The only downside to staying here is that you can't get an evening meal onsite - but - I understand why they can't provide this due to the small size of the place - it simply wouldn't be economically viable for them to provide evening food I believe. The owners are happy to recommend local places to eat and drink. I opted for a meal and a drink at the local pub (The Cemetery (!) Hotel). Not bad for what it is but if you wanted a juxtaposition with the hotel on the same street, this is it! Still, not complaining, it was walking distance away and they welcomed me as a lone Southern Softy with good old Northern hospitality. I'll be back to the Villas for sure, and very probably the pub too.

Room Tip: There are only half a dozen or so rooms here and all are uniquely decorated and furnished so I don...

We stayed here last Friday night & have to say what a brilliant place to stay this is. We were given an option of which room to stay in and then had a lovely glass of complimentary wine to settle us in.
The room we stayed in was tremendous, (top floor with bathroom next door), with antiques everywhere & a real classy feel.
Breakfast was great & overall if you have to stay over anywhere near Rochdale, STAY HERE

Great experience. Egyptian cotton sheets, antiques everywhere. Lovely rooms. Bath large with tons of hot water. Breakfast impeccable with fresh fruit. Very comfortable and attentive staff. Everyone was very helpful and gave us a tip on eating at the Italian Room restaurant which was up the road about a 10 min walk. We enjoyed the experience and would certainly rebook.

Room Tip: Each room is individually decorated to a theme we were in the Victorian room which was lovely all ma...

We stayed for one night at The Villas Residence, what a beautiful and unusual place to stay. The house is packed with fabulous pictures and antiques. The room we stayed in was lovely and very comfortable. If you book through booking.com it might be worth checking that the room you book is actually available, we booked the four poster room but when we arrived this room was already taken - not the fault of the owner.

The breakfast was wonderful, great value for money.

Thank you.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 3, very pretty.
