Have driven up and down the A1 for years visiting family; football grounds; student kids; etc. A few years ago had to pull into the service station as the car had run out of oil. Not in the best of moods nipped over the hedge into the barn like services area, which has seen better days, and sought out some food. Expecting the worst when "all day breakfast" didn't quite make it settled in for a"make do meal". Motorway services food generally has the consistency and attraction of road kill so when reluctant choice A is unavailable it is often the case that an industrial bag of sweets is preferable, and less risky, to what may be forthcoming unless you are desperate. That was the start of regular visits. Option B was locally made pork pies. They were brilliant. As it turns out nearly all of the food is locally sourced, a fact which the owners pride themselves on. The meals are fresh, well prepared and reasonably priced. The service is pleasant and efficient. There is a "farm shop" which serves mainly local, organic meats and produce of a good standard. We visited Lincoln recently and stopped off here deliberately for breakfast. It was just as good as previous visits. We will stop here again when we use the A1 around meal time. It is that good.
