There is no point reviewing this Marstons family pub chain in comparison with anything other than similar restaurants/chains. Fine dining it isn't, it's cheap (a 2 meals for 1 pub), uses plenty of pre-prepared dishes, frozen chips etc. Having said that it 'does what it says on the tin', or did for us anyway. We were a party of 12 on a weekend lunchtime of varying ages and given the reviews on here I wasn't looking forward to the meal. We ordered a variety of food from the wide choice on the menu from fish and chips to the Sunday roast. All of it appeared freshly cooked, was generously proportioned and tasted pretty good. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The service was also prompt and efficient with all meals coming up within a few minutes. Some of us had desserts which were 'by and large' pretty decent too. The bill at the end was very reasonable. Against the usual places we would eat I would probably rate this average but that wouldn't be fair so the 'very good' reflects the comparison against similar chains we have sometimes eaten in. Based on this experience I would happily return.
