I have been to the Chilli Banana on a number of occaisions and I can honestly say each time I go, it just gets better. One thing you have to do is book in advance - don't expect to phone up a couple of days before and get a table. The reasons it gets booked up in advance ...
The Service: served by Thai ladies who are polite and always smiling. The only thing for us was maybe they came a little too quickly between starter and main, but you have to expect it's a busy restuarant and it was a Saturday night. When they asked us if we wanted dessert after the main, we asked if we could leave it a little while and were happy to oblige.
The Food: melt in your mouth. We decided to select from the starter menu as opposed to having the 'set menu' which probably works out around the same - if the menu is what you want. We picked the beef with chilli sauce side dip and satay chicken skewers, both hot, tasty and just the right quantity (4 skewers for 2 peopple). The main course was devine you can select noddle dishes or curries, there is plenty of choice. The Thai red chicken curry was creamy a nice kick and the massaman beef curry (simply to die for). The description doesn't do it justice - it is melt-in-your-mouth food. We had it with sticky rice - to dip into the sauce (as the Thai's do) so you don't get too full on rice. For dessert we shared the 'chilli banana' - battered banana with sweet chilli sauce and icecream - it's an absolute must to finish your meal. The wine we chose was an £18 Rioja and was fruity and went well with the meal.
Atmosphere: Although the tables are always full, you don't feel like sardines, the two-er booths are spacious and you have plenty of room. The cliental are mainly adults - groups/couples/families with older children and the noise is just right. It is busy but you don't have to shout to hear yourself.
The total cost was about £60 but well worth it - not sure they actually charged us for dessert in the end :-)
I would without doubt recommend this restuarant and have to keep going back as I haven't found any other thai (in the UK) which competes with this.
