It was Sunday 16th September 2012. Our family of four were really hungry, so as the Boddington Arms came into view I said " I went to a wedding reception there in the late 60s, shall we give it a go?" I went in and asked the guy doing the carvery if it was still open. He told me they only had beef and belly pork left, so, that being acceptable, I went back to the car and said "Yes, they're serving", so we all trooped in.
The deputy manager asked us to go to the area where you're signed in, whereupon he said there was a 20 minute wait. "Why, when the restaurant is empty" I said. His answer was an insult to one's intelligence because he said they were short staffed. There were two guys running the carvery, so no further staff were necessary!
We walked out of this "excuse for a business", promptly followed by several other potential customers. I could go on, but words fail me! I still can't believe that the place is still in business. We never got to sample the food, but it looked good!
In total contrast, the previous night we had gone to a family run business in Sale whose restaurant was packed out. They managed to make room for us and we enjoyed a lovely dinner and although they were short staffed, we wanted for nothing - what a difference!
In all my many years of buying meals, I've never encountered such absurdity, stupidity and bad business sense. I'll never, ever, go near the place again! With such wonderful restaurants out there, why would I?
