Being recent converts to Tripadvisor we thought we'd pay a visit to the highest rated local restaurant after several positive experiences elsewhere. Unfortunately, La Caverna didn't measure up to it's billing for us.
We only went out at the last minute, hence local, on a Saturday night and didn't book. The restaurant was very busy but they did have a table free. We were told we could only have it for a set period of time due to a later booking, but as this was well over an hour and a half away it didn't seem like a problem.
The restaurant is very small and cramped and didn't have the best ambience; not bad, just not the best. Service was then excruciatingly slow. Yes, I realise it was busy, but it was a Saturday night so surely can't be unexpected? The menu is pretty comprehensive with enough choice to keep most happy.
The starters came which were generous, well presented and tasty. This did take some time though! There was then a very long wait for the main course and I realised we might be pressured for time for their later booking!
Was the food worth waiting for? Errr..... no it wasn't. I had a spicy pizza that wasn't spicy and was very greasy. My partner had ravioli that was mainly pasta with very little filling and a tiny portion. We managed to get the bill before the late booking...just and it was very reasonable and about fair for the dining experience.
Would we go again? No, afraid not. The only 'bad' thing about the visit was the slow service, but there are far better restaurants not to much further away.
