“Fantastic Hotel & Great Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2014

An amazing experience for our Wedding night. On arrival we were warmly greeted and our luggage take directly to our room without fuss. We stayed in a Junior Suite (Victoria) which was most luxurious & finely decorated with great attention to detail. Very clean & hygienic, flat screen tv, iron, ironing board, sofa, swivel chair, desk, wardrobe, carpeted and plenty of cushions (all Laura Ashley). The staff & room service were most professional & couldn't do enough. The breakfast buffet was plentiful with a huge choice of cereals, fresh fruit, bakery products, smoke salmon, cheeses, yoghurts and meats. A cooked breakfast was accompanied with fresh coffee, tea and fruit juices. It goes without saying you get what you pay for. This is a very impressive hotel with great grounds and surrounds. Will definately return for special occasions. Worth every penny. Anyone staying will not be dissapointed.

Thank you for your fantastic comments, hotelinspectior01, after your stay at The Manor, Elstree. Please also let me congratulate you, belatedly, on your wedding. I am pleased to read that you found the hospitality offered by the team to be professional and that the Junior Suite you stayed in met your expectations. All our bedrooms are individually designed by Laura Ashley which means you can expect high quality finishes everywhere. I was also glad to read that you enjoyed our breakfast this, along with all our menu’s, will be undergoing a revamp in the coming months. Thank you again for your feedback and I hope that I will get the opportunity to meet you in the not so distant future.

Kind regards,

Iain Murray

We have just held an Anniversary Brunch at The Manor - a most memorable affair , made possible by the extremely efficient and courteous staff. The Hotel's refurbishment has been loveingly done and the overall product is delightful. We found the food and presentation very good and felt that we got a "value for money" deal. Looking forward to going back for dinner sometime.

Many thanks for your positive comments, NG55. We strive to have a passionate approach to hospitality and it is wonderful to hear that you enjoyed your family occasion with us at The Manor, Elstree. I have, naturally, passed on your positive feedback to the team and they are pleased to hear that your party enjoyed themselves. I am pleased that you enjoyed the décor of the Hotel, many guests have commented on the dramatic change, and that you felt the presentation and the quality of the food was to a high standard. Our new Head Chef starts shortly and we will be rewriting all our menu’s in the coming weeks which should make for some exciting changes. Thank you again for your feedback and I hope that I will have the opportunity to welcome you back to The Manor, Elstree in the future.

Kind regards,

Iain Murray

If you are staying in the newer wing on a special price package, you will not feel to disappointed as there are other local hotels with similar standards around the £120 mark too.

However , if you are staying in the main house you will be asked to pay central London prices( £300-£450 a night) and it simply isn't worth it.No amount of cream coloured emulsion and Laura Ashley style furniture will make up for the lack of style and service standards. Faulty radiators, draughty period windows that don't shut properly, full length curtains that you can't close properly on a cold night without blocking the radiator, and a bizarre electric toilet that you need a manual to operate!

There is no concierge, no porter to help with luggage, bar staff that are not trained properly, inexperienced waiting staff and a very dull and unadventurous menu in the restaurant. All in all this place doesn't have or offer enough to justify these prices.

The hotel is a long way from central London and transport links are poor. It simply isn't a grand country hotel and really is terribly overpriced. You do feel as though the manor house rooms are priced to recoup the recent decorating makeover as quickly as possible and not on the basis of any realistic value for the quality and standard they are charging for.

Beautiful manor house with comfy and quiet rooms.

Lots of parking and friendly staff.

I ate off the bar menu and the food was very good, if not a little over priced. £7 for a small glass of wine seems a little steep also.

Would stay here again without hesitation.

We stayed for one night as a gift from our children as I absolutely love Laura Ashley, the decor was lovely just what I was expecting. Dinner and breakfast were excellent , we had a relaxing weekend and found all staff friendly and helpful , our room had an iron and ironing board and tea making facilities, which over looked the garden with beautiful views, we would definitely return.

I stayed for one night on business. On the plus side, the staff were all very friendly and doing their best to be helpful and attentive. And the room (in the new wing), whilst compact, was clean and had everything you might need for a short stay (though the wardrobe was tiny!). The public rooms (bar, dining room) are comfortable and spacious. And there is a great view from the gardens.
I found the food in the dining room disappointing. Given it is a fairly limited evening menu to start with, the standard on the night we stayed was adequate but uninspiring. The selection we made from the Malaysian menu was quite bland.
The conferencing/meeting arrangements needed quite a lot of chasing up from us on the day to make sure things happened as scheduled. Again, staff were very willing, but it seemed their background 'system' was not operating as well as it does in some other hotels who offer a lot of conference facilities.
So, for a one night stopover, it was fine. It wouldn't be my first choice for anything longer or for any major/ special occasions, either personal or business-related.

Stayed here for a new years eve dinner and disco with my wife and 2 friends. Very quick and friendly check in. The room although not spacious was lovely with all the usual tea/coffee making facilities, bonus points for having plenty of milk. The bathroom had shower over bath and a space age wc which seemed out of place in this building but good fun.
Dinner was served across 3 separate rooms which I thought might be a problem but no need to worry as there seemed to be plenty of staff however the 6 courses (food excellent) were drawn out to much and our party and other guests went without the last course to see the new year in down in the disco.
All in all our stay was very good, impressed with the comfy bed the decor and the fantastic fireplaces
