“Consistently excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013 via mobile

Been here twice in a month now, trying different things on an ever changing menu and specials selection. Superb food, fantastic wine, Stephane has good advice on wine and Olivier a magician in the kitchen!

“Stunning cooking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

I have had the pleasure to eat at this restaurant several times and have taken a variety of friends and family, and never been disappointed yet. Everything is beautifully prepared and presented with probably the best tasting house red wine you will find. The setting is much as you would expect a traditional English Inn to be with decent beers behind the bar, thankfully no pretentious waiting staff, just a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, very relaxed. The real star is the food, classic French dishes, always fresh fish, some dishes with a typically English twist, in fact something for everyone.
I can't imagine anyone trying it and not wanting to come back. As my friend would say..."whats not to like" ?

“A very enjoyable lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

First time at this pub / restaurant eatery.

A slightly confusing name being the Sweet Olive at the Chequers Inn. Think I would just rename it 'The sweet Olive' and leave it at that.

The restaurant is separated into two areas with one part containing a traditional pub bar, not that you would necessarily choose the venue for drinking as it is really just a restaurant.

A relaxing 'simple' pub ambience with no pretence to 'Farrow & Ball' paintwork or fancy furniture. Just well worn tables , benches with cushioned seating and country style wooden chairs, usually of the 'achy itchy bum variety, which on this occasion were surprisingly comfortable for a two and a half hour lunch.

A varied and interesting menu plus the usual Sunday roasts which were classed as 'specials'. If you're simply after a Sunday roast it might be better to head somewhere else as you might get better value and these were not the dishes which showed off the expertise of the restaurant.

Other menu choices were excellent and extremely tasty generating a lot of ooos and ahhhs around the table. A good wine list is available and altogether it was a very enjoyable experience worthy of a return visit.

Gratuity inclusive bill was around £50 per person, including drinks, so at the upper end of usual pub dining costs. Definitely worth the money though.

“Superb :)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013 via mobile

We had a rare romantic meal for two at The Sweet Olive yesterday. We arrived too early but were greeted warmly and offered a drink and our table.
A great selection of daily specials as well as the blackboard menu. The food was fantastic and plenty of it. Considering how busy the restaurant was - the service was impeccable and the staff polite and friendly.
We will definitely be back!

“Still good but the menu doesn't vary enough and the prices are now too steep”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

The ambience is a good freindly village pub and the food is delicious but its not good enough to be worth £20 a main dish.
