“Really Good Food, Great Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2012

On holiday near Bude. Came here for an evening meal. Very busy but pretty chilled. The food was great. I went for a Beef Madras (antidote to a week of seafood !) and these guys made one of the best I've had perfect with a huge bowl of really nice chips. My wife had Fish & Chips - also really nice. Portions are very generous. If you get a window seat the views of Widemouth Bay are lovely as the sun sets. We will definitely revisit.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012 via mobile

We've stayed here several times over the years, twice under the current ownership. We've stayed in 3 of the rooms and eaten our way through most of the menu. We visit regularly because we love the surf beach. The Bay View Inn is a great place to stay for a few days of serious sea air and relaxation. The rooms are a touch on the small side but are very well decorated and furnished with plenty of storage and good facilities, including a good hair drier. The bathrooms are all immaculate and room 5 has a lovely roll top bath. There is plenty of space in the bathrooms too, and good quality 'Out of Eden' toiletries are provided, which is above expectations for an Inn but all part of the good experience at Bay View. Rooms 4 and 5 have huge balconies with wonderful rocking chairs where we enjoyed a sundowner Pimms or three overlooking the stunning view. The beds are wonderfully comfy. NB, feather pillows made hubby sneeze. Must remember to ask for alternative next time. The food is excellent, really well cooked, huge portions and delicious. It is not gourmet dining, but it's excellent pub dining, and the pricing is extremely good value for money. Yes, there are plenty of (very good) chips, but also mash and new potatoes. There's always a great Specials board too, and the desserts are just marvellous. You need to book your table for the evening first thing in the morning. The restaurant is always full to capacity in the evenings. However, we have almost always been upgraded to a nice conservatory table. Sometimes there's a bit of a wait for food but it doesn't matter if you're in chilled surf vibe, and the staff are friendly and attentive. There are also plenty of them, which means service is of a high standard. The breakfast is plentiful and varied. All in all, we really enjoy staying here and consider it a great place to be, and excellent value for money.

Whenever we visit Widemouth, we always eat here .The food is second to none.I had the fish and chips, and the fish is really thick with a lovely light batter, Hubby had Fish pie, piled high with really tasty veg and boiled potatoes.

Room Tip: As we are relatively local( Devon) we havent had the good fortune to try out the rooms :-((

We stayed 3 nights at the Bay View and had a balcony overlooking the sea. The staff were friendly, the room was clean and comfortable and the breakfasts were great - I would definitely stay there again !

Room Tip: The rooms with a sea view are well worth the extra

We had two children and adult meals.
Service was very good and friendly. Good play area for the children.
The lamb was superb, cooked just as it should. The veg made it even better, wow. The scallops and prawns were great. Also great views of the bay.
I wish we had been earlier in the week, so we could have returned and had some of the good looking chocolate cake.

Fabulous location, great rooms, friendly and helpful service and great food, ideally situated for the beach - what more could you ask for?

We are a family of 4 so had one of the bedrooms on the top floor with bunk beds - clean and with everything we needed (including dvd player for the kids and tea and coffee making facilities for us) and fruit whenever you want it. Breakfast was wonderful and served by helpful and friendly staff. Extremely busy in the bar/restaurant during the evenings, which shows the reputation that they serve good food and a great atmosphere.

Extremely warm and friendly environment, with staff that couldn't do enough to help us!!! Especially after we locked the keys in my car, 2 of us stayed in the bar area for nearly 7 hours whilst the other made the trip home to the Midlands for the spare set! With many offers of help from their regular customers and all of the staff and owners - they couldn't have done anymore than they did - fantastic service, can't recommend it enough, we'll certainly be going back!

It's quite surprising that there are so many excellent reviews and it just seemed like any normal pub with average pub food.

Staff are really nice and maybe after a long day on the beach this is a great place to eat and watch the sun go down. But it isn't a great restaurant really. A laminated and slightly sticky menu with lots of bar snacks. Had a fairly greasy burger with some greasy chips.

It's not a bad place at all and we felt very welcome. Just an average pub and nothing special.
