We visited the ale house after a recommendation from the owner or Burrs around the corner and I'm so glad we took him up on his pub choice! We wandered in in the middle of a pub quiz raising money for the air ambulance, but instead of feeling awkward and uncomfortable that we had entered mid quiz we were welcomed in and adopted by the barman and his friend, who were a team together! The ale house was warm and cosy for a cold evening and was about as big as a lounge and felt like one too, in a good way! Warm, cosy and welcoming. The bar had 5 barrels of real ales all sourced by the free house and changed when a barrel finishes to a new ale. Wine was also available. The barman was friendly and a real entertainer. The pub got busier as the evening went on a place for locals and it had that feel, but not the least bit unwelcoming for the non locals, like myself! Best of all as the night drew to a close they provided a 2 pint take out where you can buy your favourite ale to take home with you to drink. A fantastic ale house, definitely worth a visit and hopefully when the second opens in Cowes a visit will be made there too!
