“Great if you love castles”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

Had a brilliant few hours out at the castle with my partner (both in our twenties). Nice exhibitions pieces to check out and I had great fun exploring the battlements and the views were lovely.

Not sure if it still runs, but I visited once when I was a child and they had a Ghost walk at the castle around Autumn Half Term/Halloween, one of my best childhood memories!

“Excellent family day out.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2012

There was loads to see and do here. The battlements were safe but kept fairly true to how they would have been historically. The introductory film was good for all ages. The donkey demonstration in the well house was fascinating. The chapel and Princess Beatrice's garden were also points of interest. The museum is worth a visit too. You could easily spend all day here, especially in dry weather.

“An interesting place to visit.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

My reason for the visit was the link with Charles I. The artifacts and museum were fascinating, also the details relating to his daughter, Elizabeth. Due to strong winds blowing around the ruins we did not spend as much time as we might have done exploring the grounds. We were also unable to see the treadmill and donkeys due to school parties. This is not the place for anyone with mobility problems. There is a small café, but the service is poor.

“Interesting Historical Place to Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

This is a brilliant place - just the right size and amount of "history" without getting boring and there are places to "climb" and explore.
