“Old glory...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2014

This used to be a 1st class hotel with a similar grade restaurant. I've never stayed at the hotel, but I've frequently eaten at the restaurant. It used to be very good indeed, but apparently the owners have not been able (or haven't seen the need) to maintain that level of quality in the restaurant and the furniture of the place. It looks rather like an 'Old Glory' place: it used to be great ages ago, but since then it's gone down hill.

Food is not above the average of a French inspired bistro, though the prices will lead you to believe it's almost Michelin Star quality.

A pity, since the location is fantastic (at the river the Amstel) and the potential is still there.

1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2013

We came for the food and therefore remained a night in the hotel. Our expectations were not high though, after our experiences of the last time this night surpassed anything but negative. The ropes of the only window were broken so they could open just a little bit. The carpet is full of stains and even in the bottom sheet of the bed are filthy stains from the previous occupants. In the bathroom the shower hose unit was broken, the shower rod didn’t work, a light is defect, there is no shower curtain so the floor is soaked and there is no ventilation. Costs of this room 160 euro.
If we go to the bar to get an aperitif the table by the couch is still full of dirty glasses . They are being taken away, but our glasses go bluntly on the dirty table. We did not sit on the couch because there is a tear in the worn lining causing the suspension and the filling comes out.
About the restaurant and the food we can be brief: fantastic. Even though (also) here everything is old, the tables are magnificently covered, the service is friendly and personable, the kitchen cooks the most delicious things and the wine list is well sorted, even for wines by the glass. Breakfast the next morning was of the same quality. Delicious fresh juice, tasty sandwiches and good toppings. Everything kindly served at the table . Pity the restaurant and the hotel are not in the same range of quality.

It's all in the title really. I do not have any previous experience on the staying in the locality so cannot really say if this is good value or not. Overall satisfactory but a little threadbare and short of some of the basics. Perfectly ok for business or a short stay.

A little pricey if you pay full price but a nice position overlooking the canal. A very good breakfast of fruit and yogurt, eggs and a platter of pastries, no skimping there.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms were very clean and toiletries provided.

Would stay here again when travelling on business.

Room Tip: Room 7 has a low ceiling in the bathroom. If you are tall, ask for room 8

Very relaxed hotel on the side of the Amstel.

Comfortable and individual rooms.

Restaurant is excellent, private dining available, with great bar & cellar with access to the terrace on the side of the river.

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor offer most space and great views

Actually a few kilometers outside the city direct at the river Amstel with a view so typical dutch that it seems unreal.
The ideal place to be with nearby public transport to the center of Amsterdam as well as the Airport Schiphol in the vicinity.
Beautiful centuries old houses joined to make this boutique hotel with gourmet restaurant one of my favorite places to stay in the area.
Stayed here in august with the luck of great weather so dining outside overlooking the river was an extra. Will definitely return

Imagine a place at the side of the quiet river Amstel, in a quiet environment, offering spacious rooms, all with view on the river; on top a restaurant offering (well, "offering" is not exactly the term...) a refined Mediterranean French cuisine with a good choice of top ingredients. The winelist is, to say the least, "eclectic" but unfortunately prices are accordingly so.
Breakfast is somptuous and personalised.
Don't expect a soft bill, but if you don't care about the money, you are very close to the best that Holland can offer you...
The hotel is not far from Schiphol and from Amsterdam Zuid Station, so you don't have to worry if your activity is in Amsterdam.

Room Tip: All rooms are more or less equivalent, all face the river.
