“Beautiful Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

Beautiful little hotel in the small town of Edam, we stayed here for one night after cycling from Amsterdam. Really friendly, helpful staff and a fabulous continental breakfast the next morning, and centrally located for all Edam's attractions. We didn't have dinner here although the menu looked great. We hope to stay here again at some point in the future. Highly recommended.

Delightful small inn. The young man who revieved us was pleasant and helpful. The room overlooking tree-lined canal was just right: casually luxurious with all the right touches: heated towel bar, Bvlgari amenities, robe & slippers, etc. The bed was just right with lush duvet and pillows. Breakfast is included and was prepared 2 hours early for our need to make a flight. We will certainly visit again!

We have stayed several times at the Damhotel and been so happy. The rooms are small but delightful, we especially like the Romeo and Juliet room, very romantic. The food in the bar is very good and the restaurant excellent, two quite different atmospheres. At Christmas time especially it is lovely to sit outside with a hot chocolate, one knees covered with the thoughtfully provided cosy sheepskins and watch the world pass by. Inside the decor is so interesting, old portraits, baroque statuary, high ceilings, heavy damask curtains to the huge windows and yet cosy. Restaurant service is wonderful, bar service more casual, at busy times expect to be patient, but friendly. Steep staircase to rooms but feel like you are making an entrance when you come down! Thank you Damhotel we will return often.

Room Tip: Romeo and Juliet for it's view over the street and romance.

We loved L'Auberge Damhotel. We stayed for three nights and ate the first two evenings, once in the bar, which was ideal, casual and friendly and once in the restaurant, very very good food, well prepared and presented with the more formal service delivered in an unobtrusive and comfortable way, an evening to remember.
Our room, Romeo and Juliet, was small (but we were glad to sacrifice space for decor ) it had the same romantic baroque style as the public areas which we thoroughly enjoyed, even the bathroom was in keeping, although at the same time well equipped.
Ingrid was most helpful when we booked and all the staff went out of their way to make us comfortable and welcome.
We will definitely return, perhaps in the summer to enjoy sitting outside to eat, although even this winter we sat outside some of the time with cosy sheepskins provided to warm the chairs and overhead heaters, very considerate.

Room Tip: From what we saw all the rooms are stylish and intimate, Room 1, Romeo and Juliet, overlooks the can...

The rooms vary in size and type. I suspect some of the rooms are very small, but they are all decorated with antiques, chandeliers, ornate statuary from old churches...and this theme is carried on in the downstairs restaurant. The hotel is perfectly situated on a canal in the nicest part of Edam.
The staff were friendly and trusting. The broadband connection didn't need constant re-connecting as in some hotels; there was no lengthy check-in or check-out process. The restaurant service is excellent. We had a lovely evening meal there in candlelight. A bit pricey, but well worth it.

The Hotel looked classy, lots of antique and character. Rooms though are rather small, no real access to windows as the bed covers the only window. Although the room looks beautiful, it kinda felt like we were stuck in an Atic. Rooms can at times be noisy, not sure whether it was some air con engine or some machine in the kitchen below, but it got to a point where the actual room floor started to shake as a result of this constant machine, and it was going in for most of the day.

In all, although the room had character, it was over priced for what we got. Restaurant also over rated for the price. Menu also quite limited. Not really value for money I think, even though its well located in a beautiful place. Also Service not really very good, felt more like a restaurant rather than a hotel. The staff were not really too bothered it seemed about the hotel side, but far more focused on the restaurant side of the business.

My husband and I stayed here for one night in April 2011. We were led up a steep staircase to another staircase and then to another staircase......so this hotel isn't a good choice if you have any mobility issues. Our room was small but romantic in a funky way. The refurbished bathroom was perfect.

Street parking was free, close and easy. We had a problem with the Internet connection, we couldn't connect, which was a problem for us. The hotel staff advised that they were having problems with this service.

Breakfast the next morning was served as a personal buffet at each table.....a nice touch. The food was very good and the ambiance was great.
