Nice, new hotel just outside Nes... It is half a hour walking from the ferry, but you can also rent bikes at the ferry and they arrange that the luggage is delivered at the hotel. The beach is also within walking distance, but again renting a bike is probably the best way to explore the island. Good, comfortable rooms with a balcony. Breakfast has a good choice and if the weather allows it you can enjoy it outside. A wonderful place to relax and chill out......

I've been to Hotel Noordsee a couple of times as a single parent with my 5 year old son. It conveniently located between the beautiful village Nes and the beach, both within 5 minutes by bike of 10-15 minutes walking. In case of bad weather (not unlikely), my son always enjoys the swimming pools. At this time of the year, the hotel was very quiet and accordingly we got relatively cheap rates for our room.

We stayed here for New years eve and had the new year's eve package, which I thought was quite expensive, but all holiday packages at every hotel seem to be more expensive this year, so, okay... the disappointing part was that you had to pay extra for everything!

The website mentioned that there's a swimming pool and sauna, but if you want to use the sauna you have to pay extra, and that wasn't mentioned on the website....Maybe we've been spoiled over the years, it's possible...

The receptionist didn't tell us where breakfast was served or how we could obtain everything that was in our package, how new years eve was organized, when we were expected etc. Nothing of that sort, we all had to figure it out ourselves or go back to reception to ask. They had a bit of trouble with smiling to their guests or looking them in the eyes.

It really is a family hotel, so over the holidays: expect lots of kids running around, don't expect too much peace an quietness.

The room was okay, we did find a sock from a previous guest under the bed and they were a bit avaricious with bathproducts etc.: we got 1 of each product during the whole stay, which I thought was a bit meager.

The pillows on the bed were a bit hard, but well, that's of course a matter of opinion and preference.

At the party we did not care for the coupon system, to us it felt like a way to increase prices of drinks. Also: the buffet was a bit unorganized, as if they thought up ways of presenting the food as they went along...
Breakfast was okay, but a bit strange to see the salads from the previous night on the breakfast buffet again...and again: a bit unorganized, nobody to show you to a table and nobody to help you when it seems there are no tables available.

The lobby with fireplace was nice, the bar was fully stocked which was also great. The food was okay, dessert was nice, the baththub was nice as well.

all and all we thought the price for the package was too high for what was offered.

This is the kind of hotel where everything is what you should expect of a four star hotel in The Netherlands. Comfortable and very clean rooms, friendly and efficient staff, nice pool, good breakfast etc etc. The location is good too, close to the centre in the village of Nes and also walking distance from the fantastic beaches!

We are familiar on Ameland due to 6 earlier vacations there and have always rented our own apartments in Buren and Nes. This time we chose to stay at Westcord Hotel Noordsee, as it is located very close to the North Sea, comparable to the better located apartments in Buren.

Arriving on Monday afternoon, we parked at the back of the hotel (small parking there, entrance had a few bumps and holes). We were warmly welcomed at the reception by a kind lady, who explained all the facilities. Located on the thirds floor at the end of a hall way in a family apartment, what struck us straight away was the optimized space usage, it's simply a brilliantly built apartment.

There is a small toilet directly left behind the door. Then directly right is the bathroom with bath tub and shower unit in it. Having the toilet and bathroom on the hall way side was a good idea to shield possible noise from outside. First bedroom to our left had a bunk bed which was great for our 4 year old daughter, she immediately felt at home. Then, you enter the main living room at the right. Also perfectly sized, there is a small sofa, coffee table, separate chair and poof to sit on at the back near the balcony, and the kitchen with small bar/sitting area to border the kitchen from the rest of the living room. A brilliant solution to separate the living room from main bedroom was thought up by creating a room dividing wall closet, with sliding panels doubling both as closet doors and doors for closing off the passage to the bedroom behind it. Cupboard has a (relatively small) tv in it. We brought our own DVD player along , but couldn’t plug it in next to the tv, as the socket was intergrated in the divider, so we had to borrow an extension cord and the hotel arranged for one right away ( top service).

What was smart thinking furthermore, was that the tv could be turned around 180 degrees as it was placed on a rolling stand. So when you would switch from living room to bedroom, just turn around the tv as well and watch from the bed. Brilliant!

Upon arrival in the apartment, the bed turned out to be broken in the sense that one supporting side plank had fallen off, so the bed was tilted. This we only found out the next morning (don't ask how we slept) at which point we also discovered that the shower turned cold after 20 seconds. After we had been out for breakfast first, upon our return we found the repair man fixing the shower already. He completely dismantled the unit, put up a new one, didn’t work. Took it off, checked literally everything and found the cause in a small rubber within the pipes. Very well done. He was done within 20 minutes and everything shower wise was perfect the rest of the week. The bed was fixed half an hour later. Although these things should have been checked before we arrived, this was again great service.

Balcony nicely spacious, room to sit with 4-8 people. A bit noisy with the neighbours below us, but in the evenings it was ok. Noise from the rooms onto the hallways was very present. Standing out on the hallway, virtually everything said in the rooms on anything louder than a conversational volume could be heard quite literally, with the doors shut. Something to take into account.

Hotel has a very nice vibe to it. Easy going yet stylish. Nice reception area with entrances and exits to all sides, restaurant and bar have a nice look and feel, restaurant has an outside area next to the road (shielded with transparent wind panels that conveniently protect children from running out on the street.

Matrasses were 2 x 1 person matrasses instead of 1 x 2 persons matrass. Pity. Sheets simple, but good. We slept well in these beds. Nice service was also provided through a cleaning kit in our own kitchen, and very considerate was the bottle of wine we got from the hotel for our wedding, even though I only mentioned our honeymoon briefly during the reservation.

Overall impression, out of the 6 stays on Ameland, this was one of the best. Very kind and helpful staff, top location, excellent room, the freedom of your own apartment within the luxury of a good hotel. What more could a person want? We don’t know, but we’ll definitely come back to stay here more often.

My wife and I spent our honeymoon here in September 2007. Nice hotel, great service and reasonable rates. I found the staff to be very accommodating and the daily breakfast buffet, although the same every morning, was fantastic.

The only complaint either one of us had was that the hotel only has twin beds. While this is common in Europe, it was particularly troublesome for us due to the fact that the smooth feet of the beds slid easily across the carpet, causing the beds to separate when ever we tried to sleep with them pressed together. Finally we ended up stacking the bottoms (box spring/frame) in one end of the room and sleeping on just the mattresses, which did not slide apart when directly on the floor.

That really is the only negative point that comes to mind when reflecting upon our wonderful stay on this gorgeous and tranquil little island. We looked at other hotels on the island and I think that we made the best choice out of all of them. Aside from the hotels though, there are a great deal of rental cabins/houses as well as some nice camping arrangements. We will go back on our 10th anniversary and most likely rent a house.

  • Liked — Friendly, professional and accomodating staff
  • Disliked — Twin beds that part like the red sea
