“Excellent food and good service. Beautiful atmosphere.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013 via mobile

We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at the Tracht. We thought the service was professional and the food was of very high quality and nicely presented. The atmosphere and view is really spectacular. I hesitated coming here after reading so many reviews about the unfriendly service and average food, but we were pleasantly surprised by the creative menu and professional (though admittedly, reserved) service. We will definitely return.

“Sorry but this was rubbish food with arrogant service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

We tried to reserve a table but were told we didnt need to as there would be tables free. So we turned up and sure enough there was a lakeside table unoccupied but we werent given it even after asking. So we ordered some water without gas but the waiter turned up and poured the water into our glasses and yes it was with GAS. We pointed out the error but as my son had taken a drink we werent allowed to change without buying another bottle. Rather than spoil the occasion we ordered. The food arrived and it looked and tasted awful. The battered Egli was a joke no fish but lots of batter all for 30 CHF. The arrogance of the waiter was appalling and smarmy and we honestly felt like 3rd class citizens. For a nice setting, the actually allow dogs into the restaurant outdoors and sit outside amongst the diners.

Really do NOT go here. A total rip-off with piss-poor service and an attitude to boot. My mistake was not reading any recommendations before turning up here with family.

“Nice restaurant right on the lakeside but don't expect the world”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

Sitting outside right on the lakeside on a summer's evening was beautiful but the restaurant probably trades on this to justify their price level - expensive for what you got. The service was OK - slow on bringing drinks and we ended up serving our own wine (including rescuing the bottles) from the wine table nearby. They probably needed another waiter to manage the tables. They don't have an English menu so its either use the best German you have to make an educated guess or ask the waiter to translate - reasonable translation but not great. The food came quickly but was not anything particularly special.

“Nice food and good location by the lake”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

The restaurant is a chf50 taxi ride from Zurich main station, but it is accessible more cheaply by ferry or bus had we had more time. Beautiful location by the lake and very nice seafood. We ate on the terrace until storms forced us to take cover inside, but on a midweek evening in June it was necessary to make areservation, such is the popularity of the place

“Good food, great view - typical inflexibility of Swiss restaurant culture”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

This place is pretty awesome; the food is good, the head waiter is super nice! But of course, nothing compared to Key West in Oberieden just down the road :-D.
I really like their pan-Asian twist on some dishes, mainly Thai; it's delicious, not authentic but they don't try to be.

But you know, the Swiss restaurants really try; I can see that now after 3 years of living here. It's not rudeness, it's not snobbery. They just simply don't know how to think outside the box!
For instance, we arrived there, the sun was still shining, a beautiful day. The last table on the sun dappled terrasse was still standing empty and of course, we asked whether we could take that one.
No, it was reserved. Ok no problem, we took another one which was in the shade but no matter.

Now the time then was 6:30pm, still early. To you and I, reserved table therefore no customers may sit there, means that the reserved customer will arrive at 7pm, 7:30pm or even 8pm yes? Perhaps the waiting staff would even tell you that the table can be yours until 8pm, apologies but would you like that?

No, here in Switzerland, reserved table, even if it's reserved at 9pm only and you are here at 6:30pm - no doubt you would leave by 8:30pm on a work night and give the table back in plenty of time - means RESERVED AND NO ONE CAN SIT THERE, EVER!

Which was exactly what happened here - we were done by 7:30pm with our meal, as we chose no starters. Very quick. But out of curiosity, I wanted to order dessert too just to see by when this empty table would be occupied by its intended guest.......
8:15pm they arrive - just as we were paying the bill!

Now again, not complaining here, just a mere observation - they could have easily made an extra table of business by just informing would-be customers that the table had to be returned by 8:15, if they arrive within a 2 hour or even 1.5 hr time gap. Luckily for them, no customers walked in then - but just think of the inability to be spontaneous and flexible of the restaurant culture here!
I've seen so many waiting staff turn customers away in an empty restaurant, all because the tables were reserved....for like 2 hours later.

But whatever, that's just a difference in culture, and it's not about rudeness or laziness etc.
