“snow snow thick thick snow”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

Another very satisfied Newmarket customer. A lovely warm hotel (it was -18 outside). The bedroom (suite) was spaceous & modern. The only down side was that there was no vegetarian option on the dinner menu, so we ate in the village each night. One point of interest to movie fans....David Niven is buried in the village cemetary.

Room Tip: Ask for room 121. It is large & overlooks the village & the mountains.

After reading some of the reviews prior to our visit we were apprehensive about what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised. On arrival we had a very friendly welcome and a clean and pleasant room. The food was very good value and plentiful. We could not fault anything. The walk to the village in the snow was so beautiful.

Room Tip: The single rooms are cosy and have everything you require for a short stay.

Stayed here recently as part of a Newmarket trip. The setting is stunning, snowy mountains, a nice little church nearby. The place it's in is completely dead though, 40% of the properties are holiday homes so don't expect a lively atmosphere with lots to do. It just makes for a good base.

I felt the place had a "rustic" charm, it could be described as old fashioned. I mean nothing in there is modern really, though they do have free wifi and small tv's in all rooms.

The hotel does not have a restaurant but they do put on meals for groups. Now there is no choice but they let you know what the choices will be when you arrive. If you are the type of person who is picky about food and often complains, you are in luck as i suppose there is plenty ot complain about but we all enjoyed the food and thought it was quite tasty. But as I said, if you are a fussy eater, it's probably better to use a local restaurant. The hotel charges 25 francs a night for a four course meal. Good luck finding that value anywhere else in Switzerland.

The trips we went on were to Montreux and Bern. Montreux was a nice place but we stopped off at the chateau de chillon for ten minutes whereas a few hours would have probably been better. Montreux is just a nice riviera town. Excellent Christmas market, probably the best I have been to. Bern is a beautiful city with a lovely old town (alt stadt). Lots of history and a good museum district. The market here was not so good.

Also, be prepared that Switzerland is very expensive. We bought a pick and mix of sweets from the market and it was the equivalent of £40!!

Room Tip: The higher you are, the better.

The village and its surroundings are fabulous. The hotel is simple but offers very good value for money - taking into account the impossibly over valued swiss franc. The room is basic but spacious and from the second floor rooms you have a lovely view. The shower is rather small but functional. Service is efficient and friendly.

Hotel Roc et neige came recommended as a good value base to ski Gstaad/saanen moser mountain. Easy to drive to from Geneva airport, we were welcomed by Martina who was really helpful throughout our stay. Room 320 on top floor had a mountain view and was away from the road. Great size room with comfy single beds - which are recommended over the small double for the same cost. Shower rather than bath is one downside - but lots of hot water helped - although the bathroom itself was a bit small. Room had a hairdryer if needed. The small tv was ok but a bigger one would have been better to see from bed. We thought the buffet breakfast was good - no half board for us but the pub Richemont is good for evening drinks / meals. Ski store was great for keeping boots dry overnight. All in all, a good stay in a nice hotel in a good location for lots of good spring skiing! Recommended!

Room Tip: Top floor. Single beds. Away from roadside.

I just spent one night at the Hotel Roc et Neige as Gstaad was fully booked that night... arrived at 00h45 and found an envelope at the hotel main door with my name on and a room key inside! The room was on the ground floor and not facing the road - away from the road noise. They anounce free Internet on the room, but we need a password to log on - as we saw nobody, I could not connect and check my email other thant on my phone. Very embarassing when you travel on business and need this kind of service to work!
The room was old fashioned, but well maintained. The TV set was a very small 20 year old TV.
Next morning we had to leave before 8h00, so we took bfast at 7h30 and the waiting staff just looked indiferent - no "good morning" or eye contact. The minimalist buffet was ready and food was average with a very reduced choice.
At 8h00 there was nobody at reception, so we droped our key and left as our rooms were prepaid.

Room Tip: avoid rooms on the road side due to road noise

The hotel is very clean; facilities good.
Nice breakfast and evening meal good value by Swiss standards.
The location is first class.
The staff in reception, bar & restaurant ( a small team ) were memorably rude.
It bonded our group; who swapped anecdotes.
There is no kettle provided; so you may want to take your own.
Do not be put off by the comment regarding the service; just pack your sense of humour.
