We dined at this establishment on two occasions during late September and early October, and found it to be an acceptable if not exceptional restaurant. In fairness I should say that the premises were approaching the end of their season (they close down completely from the end of October) and it showed in the level of comfort of the restaurant and the level of interest of their staff. I am sure that the best time to visit the Solimar is during the summer when views and access to the beach add greatly to the enjoyment and ambience of the occasion. The outside part of the restaurant (enclosed in cool or inclement weather) tends to be favoured by smokers and so we dined inside the the main area of the restaurant. Unfortunately, that didn't prevent us from attracting the attention of the mosquitoes! There was a contrast in the interest and friendliness of the staff, one or two being pleasant and attentive whilst others bordered upon rude disinterest. Our salads were fresh, well seasoned and enjoyable. Our main courses (fish and steak) were very reasonable if not great. The meal and wine were not outrageously expensive and overall it might fairly be said that we got what we paid for.
