“very good but beware of slamming doors”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2011

We stayed here 5 nights we got a taxi from fugeures whichh cost 55 euros (ouch). This is a family run hotel and very friendly, it is 5 mins walk from the sea and is part of the old town across from the main square.
I agree with previous contributers that the breakfast is excellent one of the best i have come across in my travels.
The old town is lovely with a maze of little lanes all seeming to come out at the lovely beach sorrounded by restuarants. L'escala is not cheap and devoid of the horrible brits that like the costa del sol etc, every restuarant is spanish (no english brekkies, thank god) and a good selection of fish and tapas available. My only beef that there was no entertainment to be found, so come on L'escala, put that right.

Room Tip: get a room facing the back, keep away from the busy sreet outside

My fiance had a very hard time sleeping there, though she is quite the light sleeper. Breakfast was great. Internet only in the lobby. Would recommend for quick stay. We only stayed one night. If we had stayed longer we would have probably left very tired due to short nights.

Room and bathroom were very clean as well.

Friendly staff that speaks english and french as well.

Beaches are quite close and parking is free. Make sure to get there on time since it tends to fill up quite fast.

Overall, for the price (compared to other hotels) this place was ok.

Room Tip: as high as floor possible and corner room to avoid noise from neighbors

We went to L'Escala for a friends 50th birthday and as we were only staying for 3 days, decided to book into a hotel rather than self cater as we always had before.
The position of the hotel just couldn't be better, right on the edge of the old town and convenient for beaches, bars and restaurants. We actually had two sea views from our room, albeit in the distance.
It is owned by a brother and sister and it seems that the whole family are involved in running it.
There were fresh towels and bed linen on a daily basis
Our room was basic but quite large and absolutely spotless. The beds are typically Spanish and quite hard, but we are talking about a £60.00 per night hotel!
The only downside to the room was that there were no table lamps and the lighting was quite harsh.
We stayed in room 101 which was right on the corner of the hotel, having a commanding view from the balcony of the traffic island below, which in itself was quite entertaining considering the standard of Spanish driving.
The windows were double glazed, the air conditioning was efficient and there was a full bathroom suite.
Breakfast was served buffet style and consisted of a choice of cereals, cold meats and cheese, assorted pastries, melon, tomatoes and even smoked salmon. The coffee and orange juice was good and plentiful.
Anyone that knows L'Escala will agree that it is not the cheapest place to stay even when self catering, so to find a family run hotel like this at this price is really excellent.
We will definitely stay there again.
